Otomo Yoshiake was watching a drill, the somewhat bemused Japanese soldiers being taught by a nanban. After spectating for a while, he took one of the teppou to join in. But then, a loud noise from the gun, and a dent in the ground next to Yoshiake's foot. He had accidentally fired it, narrowly avoiding a gruesome death. Annoyed, the nanban shouted: "Show foot!" Yoshiake, annoyed at being ordered about by a barbarian, yet still shocked by the shot, showed he was lacking injuries. The nanban was then worried about a misfire, so he said: "Show gun too! Totaled, or..." Seemingly at a loss for words (they were mere barbarians after all), he paused, then was interrupted by a ringing of a church bell. Sunday Mass. So then he said: "Otomo, let's pray." Get it? Show gun two: to... yeah you get it.

Otomo Yoshiaki is a badass. I like how you write him as a man with total determination. He knows that his actions will probably antagonize him to the rest of the country. He knows that his men will die in a hail of his own bullets. There will be many sacrifices. And he is going to accept them.

Oof, selling prisoners of war to the 1500s European slave trade? Devin, you weren't kidding about this series being dark. It's also very historically accurate. If I recall correctly, the Catholic church was annoyed at how desperate everyone was for Japanese slaves--this was still during the time when the Church was struggling with many European rulers justifying mass slavery. You can't really "save" a barbarian people if half of them are being used as human chattel. I love Master of Strategy, but your changes seem to be just what the mod needed. Combat's really "sticky," even the lowest tier units tend not to rout unless you reduce them to 10% of their numbers or something--and army losses never seem to matter. So tweaking the morale seems to be a great solution, I'll give your stats a whirl and see if they work right! What I do like though is how combat's not as flanking-dependent. I like using a semi-historical formation with a skirmish line of gunners screening off a dense wedge of infantry, with my strongest units forming the vanguard. It almost never fails to split the enemy in two, as for some reason breakthrough tactics actually work in MoS. And finally, can't wait to watch more of your series!
@trippfields2797 жыл бұрын
Broreale another fun fact-- The Jesuits gave Nobunaga a black African slave as a gift. Apparently, Nobunaga took a liking to the guy and made him one of his personal retainers. From what I can find, he did a pretty good job too. He was the inspiration for Afro Samurai.

hey, Devin, loved the video and i'm eager to see where this series goes. Just also wanted to point out a minor inaccuracy. You named the missionary Adalberto d'Ouliveryra. Now i'm pretty sure there is at least one typo there (Should be d'Ouliveyra, am i right?) but i believe you used the Y intentionally. Early portuguese didn't have the letters Y and W, we only inserted them in the language after the 20th century, almost in the 21th, to be precise. Adalberto d'Oliveira is the name. Don't get e wrong, i'm actually impressed you went for a real portuguese name, and, as i say, it is a really minor error, wich i only noted because portuguese is my mother language. I'm really not trying tobe picky or anything, but i thought you might want to know.
