I loved the scene where Justin’s character finds the “dad/grandpa” and immediately goes to him not afraid. It’s interesting because he’s the “ monster” technically speaking even though he looks like an old man. I actually felt kind of bad for the “mother”.

lmao Im gonna be the asshole here and say.. nahhh The mother is still "the monster" 🤣🤣 in reality, of course I understand what youre saying but at the same time the father can't rip off someones arm straight from their body or smash a head into bits LOL

I think his character was sincerely willing to help. His moment of self-reflection was sincere, but it also requires courage to help someone else in that situation, which he totally lost after he saw the She-Hulk monster rip a grown man in half. Everybody can talk a good game about being brave until you see someone ripped in half. It does not excuse throwing the person you accidentally shot off a tower as bait though. He was exceptionally foul for that. I loved how he repeatedly fumbled with the gun too. Hilarious

The Mother is the way she is because of the Father, he is the "barbarian". She appears a monster, but is ultimately a producr of his doing. It's actually kind of tragic.

@@pluckyduck11y did you feel like the tower scene was kind of movie logic lol. I mean wasn't he also one of her potential babies. I'd have thought the mother would just look at him like "wtf bro" and then go drag him back home rather then jump off a tower. When he first threw her i didn't even have time to understand the correlation so i was shocked when it worked. Like damn you're evil but well played sir.

yeah, this movie is about how constant victimisation can create a "monster"; all she wants is (firstly) revenge, and (secondly) love the film is clever because it shows Long's character, a rapist, sympathising with the actual monster, a rapist if there's anything missing for me, it's the purpose of Skarsgard's character

i think a really interesting thing about this movie is that by the end i found myself feeling sympathetic toward the being that was framed as the Monster. like yes shes killed who knows how many people but she is a product of many layers of incest mutation and certainly an insane amount of neglect. the way she protected tess from getting hurt by the fall and was gentle with her when she saw she was hurt, it nearly made me cry. also there was a moment there where it looked like aj was going to be redeemed but i dont think he deserved it so i was actually kinda glad when he died? like, men much better than you have died why do you get to survive this.

I admit I am a snob when it comes to horror. That being said, although I sincerely appreciated the story and thought the concept was creepy and full of potential, the movie Itself was ultimately a let down. The pacing was awful, as they spent more time developing characters than focusing on the actual horror. You get about 3 minutes of “horror” for every 20min of character development. I found myself feeling frustrated after the 3rd time something scary would happen, followed by an immediate hard cut to the beginning of a whole new sub plot. All that aside, the entire third act, especially the water tower scene, felt like a rushed mess. They were obviously trying to rush the exposition and explain everything in the laziest way possible (having the random homeless man show up and literally tell the entire story). The water tower scene was trash, and felt like the writers essentially gave up. She was shot and thrown off the water tower but they obvious couldn’t have her die so they were just like “fuck it” and she just walks away relatively unharmed from an insane fall. Overall just felt like they tried to do way too much and pack it all into the last 10min

The camerawork and lighting during the horror parts were pitch perfect. Right up there with X (and probably Pearl from the looks of it). The script and acting, though, seemed uneven. One moment it’s Men, then it’s Texas Chainsaw, then it’s Red Rocket before becoming something like Resident Evil 7 set in Detroit. I wish they tied the decay of Detroit a little better into the theme I’m looking forward to this directors work though. He’s pretty talented. Like Jordan Peele, another sketch comedy alumni. Comedy and horror are strange bedfellows

I saw it tonight. WOW!!!! It was a cool experience. I love that there was no CGI. Character development was fantastic and it took a few twists that weren't easy to figure out right away. I like that it took it's time building tension, but I do think the overall run length was it's achilles heel if it had one. 3/5 stars!!!!

Just got home from the theater seeing this and it’s one of my favorite movies of the year for sure! It’s sick and twisted and brilliant! You said that none of the men seem to be able to do the right thing, but I’d argue that Keith does. He refuses to let her phone for another place to stay out in her car, he goes out to her car to get her stuff and he gives her the bed by taking the couch.

I enjoyed this movie, but the discisions of these characters very nearly ruined it for me. I realize that bad decisions are a tried and true horror movie trope, but this movie takes it to another level completely! There were certain times when I thought this movie was almost a parody of horror movies, but it kept a serious and straight faced tone throughout. You can try to explain the commentary on gender rolls all you want, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL ANY LONE PERSON VOLUNTARILY GOES BACK INTO THAT HOUSE AND THOSE UNDERGROUND PASSAGEWAYS AS MANY TIMES AS SHE DID!!

Some people are just kind hearted, I understand a lot of people wouldn’t do it but she knew what living in those conditions was like. My pet peeve of this movie is that no one reported Tess missing? She has apparently been down there for a couple of weeks. The employer warned her about the area but she never looked for her again? Friends & family back home? 'Marcus' was blowing up her phone when she 1st arrived. No one reported her missing??? Also, all she had to do was tell the cops Hey my name is Tess ... look me up I should have a missing person's report.. I hated how that played out with the cops not believing her or taking her seriously, that was stupid. Also, I hate when Joseph hasn't seen the movie your reviews aren't as eventfu or entertainingl lol we need him to see all the movies too add his quips😁🥰

It seems like they had interesting ideas, but no direction. It's a mess with lots of holes.

I haven't seen a horror film in theatres for a long time. Saw this one in theatres and it was perfect. Audience reaction was great and I avoided all trailers for it. Great experience 👍

The movie was soooo goooood! I'm definitely seeing it again. The mutant lady is the best thing of the movie and Frank's character also.

This movie was really bad! I actually left. I’ve never left! What am I missing? I love horror movies and this wasn’t scary and made no sense. No one would go to an airbnb in that neighborhood especially not an attractive woman! Im sorry but this movie was pathetic. When the monster jumped after tess, now that was some funny shit

What is this wake of destruction being referenced? Always something funny with you two. Great review, will have to see this one too.

Liked the film but hated the use of the word “faggot”. Not necessary.
