I'm a historian who focused on Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. And I cannot stress this enough: this show is to historical documentaries what The Sun is to journalism. How many people will take this for historically sound representation frankly makes me crave a very much present-day drink.

EVIDENCE FOR THE HUN INVASION OF THRACE in A.D. 422 Brian Croke This shows that Macedonians were there before so called “slavs” and that Macedonians were not Greek. “the removal of Roman troops from Thrace to the eastern frontier.s With the Persians threatening as early as May 420," reinforcements from the European provinces were urgently required. The massive transfer of troops involved units in Greece, including the future emperor Marcian, and the praesental army under Ardaburius.5 Unless replace- ments of some sort could be found for these troops, Thrace and Macedonia would be left vulnerable.” Macedonia, Thrace(Bulgaria) and Greece. Mentioned in the history of Attilla as 3 different lands and people. And Macedonians can’t be “slavs” from the 6th century because they’re mentioned in Attilla’s history, during the goth raids before him, and from Roman and bible times.

@Rageíkové Cancroviny that could be, but i see alot of people claiming that atilla was the ancestor of the turks which is simply not true. The hunnic empire lasted one generation, and then the huns scattered around the globe. Most went west wards towards Europe and most settled in Hungary. But alot also went to Germany and even the Netherlands. They became farmers and became part of the European civilisation and intermarried alot.

Yurichtube Huns and Atila was the Turk and they are not barbarian They destroyed the roman empire with the Great honour. He didnt kill and panish civilians. But british, france, russian and the other eorupe animal empires did. Why you guys dont tell them barbarian. Because the real Barbars was them. İf these empires were your own nation, l get it. But this cant change the truth. I dont say we didnt bad things on the history but we never did animal things like your countries. And the bad things in our history are the minumum level of bad things in the history of world.

For all those who do not know the true story, the title of the video shows that the Huns were barbarians and were vassals of the Romans. But in fact, on the contrary, the Huns always had an independent state, and the Romans could not penetrate into the Hun Empire. And because of this, the Romans had little information about them. Because of this, all the inhabitants of this empire were recorded in the barbarians. In fact, they were much more cultural and organized than the Romans thought. The enemy will not describe the enemy well.

The Huns were indeed used many times as paid mercenaries of the Empire. Before Attila, the Huns actually had decent relations with the Western Roman Empire and exclusively raided Barbarian territories and the Eastern Roman Empire. Roman General Flavius Stilicho was famous for his use of Hunnic cavalry to fight against the enemies of Rome. There was also some intermarrying between Western Roman and Hunnic Royalty. This changed when Attila came into the picture, united the Huns and invaded both halves of the Roman Empire. Ultimately he focused on the Western Empire because the richer Eastern Roman Empire paid him off to attack the West and leave them, he was also convinced that it was futile to invade the Eastern Empire because Constantinople was impenetrable and the Balkan territories were pretty devastated and devoid of loot.

you realize we consider Genghis Khan to be a great conqueror right? As for Attila that was just the time period, the Romans gave him great respect and feared him. Being a barbarian is a Roman term for people outside of the empire, its more or less like foreigner except often with a negative undertone since the Romans only considered sedentary civilizations to be worth something.

Why are people here (mostly Turks it seems?) shocked and seemingly hurt that Huns were observed to be barbarous by Romans/Greeks? What level of cognitive dissonance is this? They were nomads. They didn’t build a single city, they just razed cities. They didn’t produce any architecture, civil engineering, art or literature. They didn’t even write any historical accounts of themselves everything we know of them is from Roman/Greek historians. In fact we don’t know if they even had a written language, no archaeological surveys have found proof of one as yet after 1500 years. Of course these people would appear barbarous to Romans/Greeks of the time, it’s entirely rational.

I don't remember the source but i read that there is a theory that it might be a mixed Turkish Germanic name as the suffix -illa is quite common amongst germanic naming traditions meaning small or little, for example the name Wulfilla, little wolf. The thoery would go on to say that both Rugilla and Atilla's name might have been an amalgamtion of a turkish root name and a germanic suffix.

This was the Western Roman Empire's last stand before their rapid decline. But it's fascinating just knowing that the Eastern Roman Empire, otherwise known as the Byzantine Empire, was able to survive and flourish for 1,000 more years and well into the 15th century AD, and was the successor to the Empire of Trebizond, which was able to hold out and stay alive for 8 more years after the fall of the Byzantines to the newly formed Ottoman Empire.

People love to depict the Chinese as weak southerners but there are several crucial reasons which make me to believe that the ancient Huaxia Chinese might have a similar origin with the Samhan Koreans, the Xiongnu proto-Huns, and other so-called Altaic peoples:1. The ancient Chinese aesthetics was very Northeast Asian; almost all ancient Chinese paintings depicted individuals with very pale skin, straight noses, and small eyes. The Qin and Han terracotta figurines also had very northern features.2. The ancient Chinese were the first people in East Asia to adopt the chariot warfare and bronze weapons. Those technologies undoubtly came from Central Asia via the northern route, so the ancient Chinese must have been living somewhere near the northern region in order for them to adopt those weapons. There's no point to adopt horses and chariots if they were living on tropical islands or dense rainforests.3. A lot of characters in Chinese have the radical for sheep on them, including the character for beauty “美". It seems that sheep and livestock were a very important part of ancient Chinese culture.4. Genetic evidence of Y-chromosome haplogroups. In recent years Chinese geneticists have found haplogroup Q, N, and C in various ancient Chinese tombs in northern China.5. Genetic evidence of mitochondrial haplogroups. Chinese geneticists have tested the mitochondrial haplogroups of early Sinitic sites in northern China and found them to be overwhelmingly haplogroups M and D4/D5, and they cluster with modern day northern Chinese, Koreans, Honshu Japanese, and Inner Mongolians.6. The famous Han Dynasty historian Sima Qian wrote in his book Records of the Grand Historian that the Xiongnu Huns were descended from the ancient Chinese Xia people. Sima Qian was well-known for his honesty and cautiousness. He has been jailed and castrated by the Han emperor for telling the truth. He compiled his book inside the jail.7. The Chinese use the word "Han" to refer to themselves. This word is almost exactly homophonous with the Korean word "Han" and near homophonous with the Mongolic word "Khan". And they all have the meaning of "big, masculine, vast, grand".

I think O is a haplogroup of southern origin (especially O1 and O2, O3 is a bit northern though), many southern Chinese and Southeast Asians had them, while haplogroups N, Q, and C3 are of northern origin. According to DNA tests the ancient Chinese had rather high frequencies of N, Q, and C3, that's probably where their "northern features" came from. Modernday Chinese seem to have somewhat higher frequencies of larger eyes and double eyelids than their ancient ancestors, because they had assimilated many southern tribes during their conquest of southern China (which was originally a Non-Chinese land).

There is no DNA tests that shows ancient Chinese have N,Q,C3 and for your info N and Q is very high in some Southeast Asian ethnic minorities. Also the Y-DNA of descendants of Laozu and Y-DNA of some Chinese emperors were O2a. Haplogroup also doesn't tell the whole story for example C3 can also reach as high as 12.5% in Vietnam with regions even peaking at 18.8%. It doesn't mean Vietnam are part Mongolians.
