This man speaks the truth! I was pretty unimpressed with the results I got spraying TruColor from my Iwata HP-C and HP-C+ Hi-Line until I started cutting it with Mr. Leveling Thinner. I usually spray it on pretty wet and now I get results that look like glass. It's now my favorite paint for gloss. Yes Floquil is sadly discontinued, you can thank the people at RPM/Testors for that. Luckily I have about 300 bottles! Scalecoat is actually a REALLY old model railroad paint line and it's fantastic paint. I have a ton of it on the shelf. Extremely high quality. I really appreciate your videos, they've helped me figure out how to make friends with TruColor and I love seeing all your paint test drives. ❤

You posted a video about bringing back dried paint, A friend gave me a weathering set Polly-s paint. It was in chunks as I took it out of the jar( which still had the safety seat) I just cut it up in little pieces and added it back a little at a time with a 50:50 mix with the product you reviewed. To be honest I did have to use more than 50:50 but now I have paint. Yes I did use it through my airbrush and it came out perfect. Oh I already use the leveling thinner from this video and it does work great! Thanks!

I've been using big box store blue metal gallon container lacquer thinner for my thinning needs for a while. Before that, I used the same brand mineral spirits for Model Masters and Testors thinning. Because of this video / your recommendation, I recently bought Mr. Color Leveling Thinner and Rapid Thinner! Thanks for the tip! A video of cheap lacquer thinner like the big blue can with a leveling agent vs. Mr. Color would be an interesting video! Thanks again!

My only question about fast thinners is whether you risk the thinned paint drying in your airbrush during spraying. That's one of the advantages of using a delaying/self-levelling thinner.

I have traditionally used lacquer thinner for cleaning my airbrushed because it cleans out everything. I had a bad bottle of Testors enamel dry inside my airbrush -- hard as rock. Lacquer thinner was the only thing that would touch it -- clean as a whistle.

Thanks for this tip on the Leveling thinner. I'm methodically switching over to the Tamiya LP line stocking up on Lacquer thinner. The ratio I use for Tamiya is to add thinner to the bottle up to about where the neck rises up to the thread line, which seems to be ideal. Thanks again for this tip on the Leveling! Using only 1-thinner saves a lot of money and increases storage space! I'm more of a Tamiya user, though I do have some Vallejo, Mr. Color and Alclad II bottle of aluminum, I personally don't see the quality difference between Mr. Color and Tamiya - especially compared with Tamiya's LP series. Thanks!

I use both Tamiya and Mr Color and they’re both great. The only thing that Mr Color has is more colors to choose from than Tamiya. If Tamiya would increase it’s selection then that would be great. What they really need to do is make all of their spray paint colors into the jar paints then I would be sold.

Leveling thinner is great, but I found a cheaper option that works great too, universal acrylic thinner from auto paint store, basically a thinner for 2k primers, 2k clear coats, and auto paints. they come in different "speeds", slower drying one, faster one and a normal. I buy them $5 per liter and for me it works as good as mr.color.

Thank you for your wealth of resources, so much to watch! Do you have a video about paint types 101? I'm trying to learn about what's the best type of paints to paint gunpla, and I see that there are a bunch of options. For instance water based acrylic, oil based enamel, lacquers etc. I'm looking for a resource to learn what's the best. Also looking for best practices in terms of using various paints on the same model or project. One point of interest is what paints are not to be sprayed over others etc. Do you have any paint kits or packages recommended for beginners?

Scalecoat has been my absolute favorite paint for over 40 years (I'm primarily a model railroader). When the owner of Weaver Models retired, he sold the rights and formulas to Minuteman Scale Models in Massachusetts. Due to "environmental restrictions", MSM moved to the more business friendly New Hampshire. Regrettably, late last year Shawn became ill and the business has closed. While a lot of stores still have stock, there currently will be no new production. I don't know if Shawn is planning on re-opening the business or selling on the rights. PS: You can tell the old, old stock from the new, old stock by the lid. The older bottles have a metal lid, the newer bottles have a plastic "child-proof" cap.
