Well I finally got them. Tamiya's lacquer paints. While they're not for sale here in the US I found a source in the UK that ships super fast, last than 5 days to arrive with full tracking. As far as the paints go, fantastic!! They airbrushed great but the true surprise was how well they brushed. Check the video for full results, you'll be shocked as to the brushed on black.

I mentioned it in your preview, these have been my go to paints for the past year, fantastic performance and finish. The semi gloss black is difficult to get over here in the UK too, but oh man is it amazing. I order all my supplies from UMP they give great service. Thanks as ever for the great reviews.

I am always very impressed with how good you explain how to paint and what psi to uses how to use the airbrush and how to brush paint and how to thin the paint how to clean the airbrush and how different thinners acted the same ,and one of the best things you do is you put the link were to buy all the thing you use .when I painted cars in the 70s you had to learn how by trial and error or like I did worked for some one for free to learn how ,thank you Sir I am getting started to do this and I can't wait for your new videos I look for them every day and watch them all so thank you sir !

I'm so happy to see these can be used with regular brushes. I bought a red color because it was the closest color I needed, and none of the spray cans or acrylics had a close enough shade. I don't own an airbrush, one day I will but for now I'm without one. Your channel has been a wonderful discovery for me today, thanks!!!

Great video that shows how easy these are to use. After about 18 months of trying to airbrush various acrylic paints with mixed results I tried these. They are so easy to use and get great results. Always avoided doing car and aircraft models but using these the results have been amazing. The only downside is that some colours seem to be missing from the range especially some of the cammo colours. Rapid thinners works well too.

Tamiya's Flat Black to me is the best for soot stains. I'm a model railroader in the stream era, so tunnels, engine houses need soot. Good for chimneys also. Love you do these reviews, cause I need a new line of paint since the Model Master line was discontinued by Rustoleum. I have always liked the way metallics looked sprayed over brushed. I love tamiya's LP line. They spray so much nicer than acrylics. I now use lacquers any time I can. I've been ordering mine from Sunward hobbies in Canada. but stock has been low on a lot of what I need now. Racing white is an off white color. Back in the early dys race cars were painted to match their countries. Germany is white or silver, Japan was white with a red circle or sun, France was blue, italiy was red which is where all the red ferraris came from it's a spin from their racing days when the scudaria ferrari ran rosso coursa or "racing red" cars, GB was green hence the color british racing green. The "racing" colors are supposed to match the old racing colors.

I'm glad that you tested Tamiya lacquer, I come from the Netherland and I know an online hobby shop that sells those paints never tried it but I wonder how they are, now u finally tested and it looks better than the Tamiya acrylic. For a while now I use lacquer paint because it's stronger. At this moment I use G-paint I hope u gonna test that as well the surface is awesome. Also, G-paints already release their second paints and they recommend u can spray without a primer.

That gun metall is the best colour to make nice rims on the cars,no wash needed and has a kind of a shadow effect in/on it. Use them a while,6 months about. And they give good results,the body,s of the cars i do 2 times a light mist coat after priming.Let it dry for 30 minutes,then i cover coat,30 minutes waiting and a wet coat.The result is stunning.

Hello there, welcome to the channel. I call my room the Fortress of Solitude. I wanted to let you know I'm developing a line of paints and they happen to be enamels. Two reasons I choose enamels to be a part of my line up. One is they can be brushed and airbrushed. Two is we have lost the Model Master line so I hope they will fill a void. Even come in similar jars. My partner who's producing them is working on military FS colors as well as many others.

@@danambrus5298 I recommend enamels first and lacquers second. Many enamels have a high Gloss that looks great and doesn't require a Gloss top coat. Lacquers gonon nice but most require a top Gloss coat. Testors and my own Mecha Empire brand of paints are enamels. I purposely choose car colors for my Mecha line because I also build car kits. For lacquers there's many to choose from. Tamiya, Mr Color, Splash.

I've been around lacquers and enamels my entire life of 57 years. It was the family business. We had a spray painting company. We painted parts and pieces with giant spray booths and baking ovens. I've never had any type of reaction and I guess I'm used to the fumes. Keep in mind that hobby paints are no where near as "Hot" as actual auto and industrial paints. They are way weaker and watered down versions of the industrial strength paints. Use a respirator and you'll be fine. I can't live without solvent paints. They just perform so much better the acrylics that it's not even close. The strengths outweigh the fumes or smells to me.

Having a guess, but my motoring background suggests that 'racing white' could well be a classic and very traditional Japanese car - and particularly racecar - white that's close to ivory. Some of Japan's most iconic racecars schemes are red and ivory.

I have almost the entire tamiya lacquer range and they are super easy to spray with when thinned with mr levelling thinner or mr rapid thinner for the metallics. Only problem is with small brushes the lacquer dries between wetting the brush and moving your hand to the model so you have to thin with straight laquer retarder.

Now, although you may have already talked about Tamiya's line of enamel, but if not, I say to check them out. Especially with enamel brands like model master getting chopped off, and stuff like humbrols and revells being so rare, it's one of the only the real enamel hobby paint left. You can't really get them in the states though, however, which really does suck. I've seen a lot of modelers use them, and to be honest, I'm jealous. Though, I dunno if they're worth the hype and use around them. I hope more enamel hobby brands pop up. It's one if the fundamental types of paint, and it'd be really bad to see is phase out.

Great video and paint. I love how it turned out. Why are they not sold in the US? Is it because of shipping hazardous paint from Japan? I have bought a few items for a couple of hobby shops in the UK and have never had any issues getting the product in a timely manor. Well except last summer during the peak of the Covid-19 problems.

Tamiya USA keeps promising they are "coming" but they don't bring them in. Until Tamiya USA brings them in we are stuck ordering from other countries and having to have them shipped.

Probably has to do with the formula of the paint and it probably contains a chemical that is prohibited from sale in the US. Was the same issue with Mr. Color Aqueous, until just last year or so they re-released the line with new formulation. Let's hope that with the modeling hobby picking up cause of COVID they get encouraged to release then here sooner than later.

Whats the ratio of thinner if ill put it straight in to the bottle itself. Should i just fill it up with thinner aswell? Like on the acrylics. Thanks

Yes, that's a good rule of thumb. They're lacquers are fairly thin so you can top off the jar like their acrylics

Unfortunately, the larger jars in Tamiya have a smaller set of color choices compared to the 10ml sizes.

I'm just getting back into the hobby, I have a question, but has nothing to do with the video. I'm building up my paint supplies, tools, etc. What is the serial number on your micro mark nips? The sell like 4 different kids on their website. Sorry for the of course question.

Tamiya primer doesn't stick to Strelets, Zvezda and othe soft plastic minatures. You can peel pro\imer with your fingernail.

My buddy who builds kits on a borderline pro level never uses primer on anything, ever. He doesn't believe in it and thinks it's a waist of time and money. And he says he's never had a problem. He does of course build them and puts them in his cabinet displays and never really touches them again, so there's that

Hi beginner here, I plan to only do hand brushing for now but the color of paint I want to use is only available in spray can. Do you know how I can bottle it like the ones in this video?
@barbatosrex9473

You can use a method called decanting. You tape a short straw to the spray can nozzle and put the other end in a tupperware type of container or a jar with a lid. The hole in the lid should be the size of the straw, then seal the straw with tape. Then spray the paint into the container or jar. You can place everything in a large clear bag while you do this for extra protection. Spray enough for you to airbrush or empty the can if you wish. Be sure to store the paint in a well sealed jar. I might do a video on this soon

Hi man just wondering. Do me hobby and Tamiya plants have a strong smell to them? Currently using Vallejo paints and wanting to switch to Tamiya and mr hobby. But I’m worried about the fumes. I’m currently using a cheap air booth. Wondering whether I should get a respirator and do you use one? Thanks
@barbatosrex9473
@barbatosrex9473 4 ай бұрын
Tamiya has what they call the "sweet smell". It's a unique but strong smell. Mr isn't as strong. Mr Hobby Aqueous is a good choice as it's half the smell as most. All three of these are cheap so I would buy one of each and test them yourself. Here's the respirator I use amzn.to/4crEzBt
