I'm back with another Tamiya Spray can test. This time I test out all their metallic colors. I spray it directly on to plain spoons, no primer. The results are fantastic. I believe these are among the best spray paints you can buy for model building. Watch the video to see the results and how well they go on.

The Tamiya Metallics are great, and they're transparent enough to be affected greatly by base coat. I did some spoon tests on a few of them last year and the base coat does make a huge difference. As an example, I sprayed TS-18 Metallic Red and TS-51 Racing Blue over Testors Diamond Dust, Tamiya TS-42 Light Gun Metal, and Testors Blazing Black and the differences were fairly dramatic, with the colors getting deeper with the darker base coat. I'm loving your channel, and keep the paint tests coming!!

I have a question, and hopefully you do read your comments. First, thanks for this breakdown! I want to do a few projects with metallics and this video is perfect. However, I would like to know your opinion on a nice blue for Exia’s blue parts. I’d like to stick with the anime colors. What do you think of a metallic blue? Should I just take that pearl clear and spray over the original plastic? Also, if I picked the metallic blue, what process do you recommend? I am looking at Mr surface gloss black 1500-> metallic blue coat x2 -> gloss top coat, decal, then matte top coat. Thought?

Hello Dear, I have metal model diecast cars (Maisto/Bburago) and I would like to remove their old paint and paint them with the paint that I want… But sadly i’m super lost since I can’t find any answers in google about it.. Could you just guide me and make it more clear for me about if any of Tamiya products (PS/TS/XF..) works on those metal model cars or no? I’ll be using a primer too if needed ofc but also idk which tamiya primer to use.. Like I almost got no idea about anything but i’m just trynna learn and read as much as possible! hey the Tamiya TS-79 is a semi gloss, would mixing tamiya x-22 gloss with lets say 50& thinner make it semi-gloss? i seen a video of a dude using tamiya x-22 on its own and it was glosssssyyyy and it orange peeled. it looked terrible. he was doing experiments. but the x-22 thinned with lacquer or acrylic thinner looked nice and subtle. i just don't have an airbrush atm so I'm restoring to Tamiya spray cans

I know this video is old but I’m a first timer and I bought dark mica blue with Pearl clear just due to the fact that they didn’t have any gloss clear. Anywho, the more I think about it I believe it will bring out a nice finish if I can execute the paint job. Do you have any experience spraying clear Pearl over any metallics and how was your experience with that combo if so?

I picked up the Pearl ver. of Blue, Yellow and White to paint a gunpla for my Dad but I forgot to pick up a primer spray. Is it true that you don't need that for these colors?

Excellent. The thing is though most will use a base coat primer and that'll affect the shades, especially the metallics.

Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations on how to store a collection of these spray cans? I've got about 40 different cans of spray paint, spread between Tamiya and Mr Color. Currently I've got them all just stuffed into cardboard boxes and pushed up under my desk. There's got to be a better way to organize and store these things!

Hello. I love your channel. I need your professional opinion. I use mostly stainless steel earring posts and hooks. Sometimes cheap metal made to look like silver. I want them to look better with my colorful jewelry. Can I use this paint to make my jewelry hardware gorgeous? I need to stay on without flaking off as a woman puts the earrings on and off. The interesting thing I found on the pearl white, the one I bought (from a full rack of the same paint #) was a metallic white. Which looked really nice. I am glad they corrected the problem. I was hopeing to have a demo on metallics on clear rc polycarbonate bodies. What would be the best back up color on each metallic. As you so nicely showed one might not need a back up color? Also when to mask and when masking is not needed. Over spray onto lighter colors. Either I was, not applying enough paint, or the can was too far away. The orange is a great looking color and it is not used enough. I sprayed a Corsair canopy with blue and it turned out gastly.

would metallic spray cans be suitable for decanting? I am always fearful with spraycans, can never get it right, either too much or too little. I prefer using my airbrush ... but dont know if decanting spray cans works, or if I am better off buying the paint and thinning it~

I'm sold on the Tamiya metallics. They're incredible. Problem I have is I can't seem to find a metallic which closely resembles the shade of light blue silver metallic for a BMW M635csi build which I'm going to start soon. The official color is salmon silver metallic. If you can offer advice on how to mix ether Tamiya acrylic or TS paint (gonna decant these) I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm stuck. Barbatos one question, when these colors are spraid on a plastic model, do i have to spray clear also? Are these cans 2k,where you dont have to do clear on it, only if you want protection against scratching.and will these have gloss without clear?

These have a nice Gloss to them without the need to clear coat them. But you can Gloss them for a much more shiny look to them and for added protection but in the end they really don't need an extra gloss

That might work. Always test out on a spoon to see the real results. Also go to your App store on your phone and get Color Mix and Trycolor. You pick the color your looking for and thee app tells you what colors to mix together to get that color

I'm new to the hobby and so far you're the best channel when it comes to RC paint thanks for what you're doing. I have a question I have a Kyosho NSR 500 RC motorcycle and it's dark gray to light gray parts should I use TS or FS. I don't have a lot of money to spend on all different paints but I want to go with the kill bill type theme of yellow and black on the motorcycle. Also it has a little clear visor then I would like to have a mirror black finish it doesn't have to I might just use what I have I have that duplicolor metallic chrome that I might use for the visor or some parts to make look chrome.

I've never tested that. It's not as transparent as the Mr one was but it's close

It's incredible the TS-53 has a purple cap but once you spray it you find out it looks like Admiral Blue / Sephang Blue.

I love the blues I'm struggling with ideas to paint my RC motorcycle it's an X rider cafe racer and also has a rider on it that looks like an American guy I'm leading towards that TS54 light metallic blue I'm also leaning to make it look like metal like an aluminum gas tank and fairings I wonder what paint would make it look like real aluminum.

*ts-85* i thought the same thing about it until i noticed that when you angle the light correctly it will do a 'flip' a bit like a candy paint and has a pink fleck through it. Similar too the way you see hotrods at a show and the paint looks like two different colours on the same car but its a flip affect. hope that makes sense slow brain today. jv.

So still new but I just got a Tyrrell to build and considering the ts89 instead of the typical ts15 (i could also get the clear pearl), i might be wrong but to my eye the tyrrells look darker than they should be due to the camera tech, other disclaimer is i started watching in 2017

Hello, How long would you let it dry between coats, If you weren't doing it on camera, And is 15 mins between coats to long? Why I'm asking, It seems like you are putting a lot on fast, But not getting runs or orange peel.

These dry quickly and aren't prone to running easy. A minute between coats should do it

I have 3 pairs of different magnification reader glasses. I got them at the dollar store. I use a 1,2 and 3 for different things. I use the 3 for when I panel line for example. They changed my model building life as I got older

Cause I've been looking for Imola orange color, there's candy orange from Duplicolor but it's not like Imola orange, I wanted badly for painting an Acura NSX by Motormax. Bought a while ago a bunch of cheap acrylic paints locally and want to buy better ones for painting VIA brush, was looking at Vallejo Game colors or Model colors, are these good? Heard Citadel paints might be better but their too expensive for the amount.
