BARBEL FISHING A LOOK AT THE RIVER DEARNE - BROOMHILL - VIDEO 73

A walk along the bank of the River Dearne at Broomhill with Andy Collier looking at a stretch I used to fish so passionately for barbel.
Over a two year spell I fished the dearne around a hundred and thirty times between the Millers Inn Low Barugh and Mill Lane Barnburgh. Roving with a single rod I found the Dearne wasn't full of fish like a lot of rivers but contained small pockets of fish which were subsequently washed down river when in flood. Once washed over any of the half a dozen weirs on this stretch there was no return. The further down river I fished I found the more chance of catching in numbers increased. The future of small rivers like the Dearne looks bleak with predators like Cormorants and Otters being introduced these small rivers could soon be decimated.

I used to live a short cast away from that stretch. Seems to have recovered from the dark days of the 80s when it was polluted during the miners strike i believe

Yes its surprising how well rivers like the Dearne have overcome pollution from local industries.

Hi, i rarely fish the Dearne but used to park in front of Thaal restaurant at Darfield and near Old Moor Tavern at Broomhill both safe parking and close to river. As for me doing ok. Thanks for watching vids 👍

great video mate👍🏼may i pick your'e brains a little ,done some walking found a nice stretch on dearne it is close by to some allotments but has a public footpath all the way before do i have the right to fish along where the footpath is?as someone unconvincingly told me i wasnt allowed ?

If its a public footpath you should be ok to fish. Private land is a different matter.
