Tea or Coffee, flask or stove ( feel free to comment below )
Autumn floods require a stepped up approach to fishing the river Wye for barbel. Boilies lead clips and PVA bags coupled with bite alarms produce an interesting day of angling

A very productive session. Your tripod set up was quite a feat of engineering. On flooded rivers I tend to use just 1 rod and carry minimal gear in a rucksac so that I can move swims easily. Tea and flask for me as using a stove is fine but necessitates carrying some extra items for making drinks etc. I did like your filter coffee apparatus, bet it tasted great on the bank. Another enjoyable video, well done.

My favourite swims tend to be a 20 minute walk from the car, and across stiles, so a barrow is out of the question. A one rod set up beckons, as I'm worn out by the time I reach the swim nowadays.

Hi Steve, I wanted to explore the concept of using standard carp gear for barbel so I had to be a bit creative with the gear but it kind of worked. I’m totally with you on the 1 rod and mooching approach however it was nice to take a few luxury items. Massive thanks as always for your continued support and time spent commenting.

@@borderlands6606 I’m with you on the 1 rod approach but this one stretch does allow for the use of a barrow. As a young pup I worked as a labourer and swore never to push a barrow again and this session confirmed my dislike of anything with only one wheel and no engine. Thank you for watching and time spent commenting

Fished that peg ha ha loved that stretch when I went although it was a lot lower I remember getting 1 barbel on feeder in that peg and 2 chub on rolling meat

More excellence. PVA bags make sense at this time of year for a more targeted baiting approach? I've tied regular knots in my safety rope for wet/cold hands. Thank you.

Hi Mark, Catching the river right has been tricky of late but the Wye has needed a good flush through. Many thanks as always for taking the time to watch and especially to comment. Looking forward to your next vid

Great video. Do you think the leader you are using could lift up with the flow of the water? Ive wanted to use them myself but worried this could happen

Hi Bryan, I had the same concerns as yourself so I opted for the use of a backlead and paying out a good amount of slack to hopefully overcome the issue. A huge thanks for taking the time to comment as it really helps our channel and community grow.

@silentangling I think getting that last few meters of line pinned down is really important I have been using long heavy fluorocarbon leaders with rig putty
@silentangling
@silentangling 9 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree more, upstream ledgering with a good bow has proved to be very affective for me this season as I think the tension of any line the fish come into contact with is the major factor in spooking fish. I will however give the long flouro with putty a go on a smaller slower moving river I'm about to fish for the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for that. Thanks again

Do you think there is a real advantage in using two rods? Ive used two rods a few times but never really found any real advantage. Found that i lost focus and the extra rod was more of a distraction than an advantage.
@silentangling
@silentangling 9 ай бұрын
Hi, I totally agree with you. For my preferred style of barbel fishing on the Wye the two rods setup is far more hassle than its worth, however I can see it being effective on the larger river such as the Trent. Many thanks for taking the time to watch and especially the time spent in commenting it not only helps the channel grow put it keeps me motivated.
@Accyboom
@Accyboom 9 ай бұрын
@silentangling yes I think on the trent because of its size 2 rods is good. I've tried several times and just don't feel comfortable with a two rod set up. I know I'm one of the minority though. Almost everyone I see uses two rods for barbel now. Anyway great videos. Very relaxing, educating and interesting. We'll done

The wary fish can often sit further downstream picking up the food items from your feeder or pva bag so a second rod fished there can be a advantage. That's what I've found.

The more I watch you the more I realise our approach to this is very similar " except my poison is ringtons gold tea can't do tea out of a flask 🤣oh and I do take bacon oh and sausage oh and egg's on occasion, good bit of advice there young angler's get yourself a dog spike and a rope or as I bought a horse lunging rein cheap as chips of Amazon and could just be a investment that saves your life . Really enjoyed the video " when I put small barbel back I always wonder if they'll grow to be that monster we dream about" going mushy in my old age . 🤣🤣

Hi Martin, I shall take you up on your beverage recommendations and don’t be surprised if the next time you do a on the bank fry up you don’t see a on beaten up tiley hat appear from the undergrowth, make mine brown sauce. Great advice on the horse rein and I’ll be honest them little barbel always but a smile on my face as they’re so dam cute. Many thanks for your continued support and taking the time to comment its become the part of making films that I really look forward too.

Another enjoyable video though I must confess to a tinge of jealousy at the number of barbel you seem to catch! Question - what was the thinking behind using the PVA bag approach rather than a feeder?
@silentangling
@silentangling 8 ай бұрын
@@MrLouRules This is a known barbel swim with a match the day previous producing 40lb of barbel so I'm guilty of edging the odds in my favour. I was interested in exploring the concept of barbel fishing with a standard carp set up so PVA was the only tool available, as a spod would of spread the bait too far in the flow. I will however use PVA in the colder months just to get a few free offerings around the hookbait. Hope this makes sense and a massive thank you for your continued support as the channel is growing rapidly and it's you guys which have made it possible and for that I'm truly greatful.
