BARBEL FISHING| Natural baits for BIG FISH!

Hello and thank you for watching my video today.
I got out for a shortish afternoon session on a local river and decide to use just natural baits in an effort to get plenty of bites. I hope you find this video entertaining because I had a really good time that day and I hope that comes across.

Thanks John mate incredible fish and great to get it back out the snag. That perch too was a stunner! The wet socks is annoying but at least I was on my way back home 😄

Lovely barbel Dan & well done getting it of the snag, I've seen anglers try & drag fish out rather then relax the line/rod & let them swim out. Nice swim albeit a bit cramped, would a pan net be easier to use? That feeling of wet socks squelching in your boots, lol. I've always got a spare set of socks in my fishing bag just in case.

Yeah it's something I learned carp fishing big weedy pits that if you just pull and pull the fish is going to come off, much better to keep it steady and as long as you can feel them they'll often come out. I've thought about taking my pan net but the big reason I still take my carp net is so I can prop it up and let the fish recover in plenty of space while I get my cameras and stuff ready. And yes the wet socks is never fun 😂 at least I was on my way home

Well done matey! Precisely why, if I'm on top of the rods I never opt for bait runners. I'm never far away from my rods when fishing so no need for them. We'll done though on an otherwise nice session! 👍

Back when I was a lad we used to make minnow traps out of plastic bottles. and use the minnows for catching barble and chub it was the best bait that was on the river Kennet happy days now I live in the Midlands so off to the trent for 4 days Friday.

Food for thought there Keith. Speaking of minnows I caught a big minnow on a little jig fair and square in the mouth the other day, followed it in and grabbed it at my feet! Goes to show it's dog eat dog out there. Good luck on the Trent it's one of my favourites

Well done Dan, a great mixed bag session! Maggots are a great barbel bait although I’ve not used them for a while. A lovely barbel and bad luck luck on losing what was probably another one! That’s fishing !!

It was funny how at the end there I put what was left of my maggots out across to the run I was catching from and it sent the swim wild! Have to remember that for another day. Thanks for watching mate
