Күн бұрын

Join me for a short evening session barbel fishing on the River Ouse as I try to extract one of it's elusive residents that have evaded me, or left snagged me up for the past 3 seasons. Having already had success taking out Mr Whiskers from the River Swale, Wharfe and Nidd this season, the River Ouse was the one river I was most fearing would stall my campaign. I'd already failed to get a take once this season so, never one to give up, I returned to the Leeds & District ASA water for the River Ouse round two. Would I get lucky? You'll have to watch to find out😉
If you are interested in any of the products I use or feature in the videos, I have been compiling a list of those in my amazon store.

Great to have done it on all 4. Nice one! I had my 2nd ever try on the Ouse yesterday, got a decent Barbel on a 7ft Wandzee that I really picked up for the kid. No idea what I'm doing yet, just took my gear/baits from commercials.

Sir I tip my hat to you, in 2010 I set myself the task of catching a chub and a barbel from Ure Nidd Swale Wharfe Don Aire Calder Trent Ouse Needless to say most of those I got first go (Don, Trent, Wharfe, Swale). It took 5 seasons to catch an Ouse barbel and when I did I was bloody bream fishing. So seriously impressed well done!

Cheers, unfortunately my quest for further rivers ended there, due to work and match commitments. I intended to add the Derwent, Ure (haven't even fished then this year) and the Aire (only fished matches for roach). I returned to the Ouse to look for a double without success.. conditions just weren't right. Anyway roll on winter, a bit of piking and a few matches to go at. 🤞

Thanks Steve, I did what I could with the cameras and post video enhancement so you could at least see something, it's never easy trying to adjust settings on action cameras, they're not the best low light tools. You deserved a mention mate, I used Korda N-Trap on the hair out of my carp kit...I just stripped the plastic coating off it, it's quite stiff so probably makes it harder for them to spit the bait.

Well done John. Persistance pays off with a lovely barbel. Few tips i would shorten the hooklengh to 1 1/2 ft. Shorten the hair if using pellets to touch bend of hook. And use hard pellets like halibut soaked in oil or 12/15mm boilies. Wrap boilie or pellet and hook in some fishy paste so they suck the lot in. Great video as usual mate. Tight lines
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nigel, glad you enjoyed it pal. The Ouse is a bit experimental for me but I'll take the tips on board, one question, why do you recommend the shorter hooklength?
@fishingnorfolk
@fishingnorfolk 2 жыл бұрын
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel i wouldnt go super short. Minimum 1 1/2ft but i think it is, a good optimim length which allows a bit of movement as they suck in the bait in but then feel the weight of feeder or lead and bolt without having the opportunity to blow the bait out again. But again depends on water clarity and speed of flow. Tight lines

I've sent JB a message, told him well done on his 10-10 fish and I'll be trying for a bigger one later on the year, to which he responded "so will I" 🤣. The Derwent isn't as hard as it used to be, there's plenty of barbel in it now, you just need to be in the well oxygenated water below any of the weirs.

Nice John! The Ouse has been very kind to me early season (as you've seen on Facebook 🤣)...I wouldn't usually touch it until Autumn but this summer has been cracking. Little tip, I use a short hooklink, around 12 to 18 inches maximum, of 12/15lb gravel braid. Helps with those finicky bites when you're convinced the fish should've hooked itself. The barbel on the Ouse are not shy, even in the early season. Give it a shot, might just help 😁
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Liam, you've had some nice fish, I'll give it a go mate. What's interesting with the setup I was fishing though (15lb big game straight through) is that the double float stops allow me to vary the hooklength from the lead at will, so I may just try shortening off first if you say they're not lead shy. Keep crushing it mate, I'll be back on it later in the season, it's the Derwent next up for me.🤞
@liameverett7205
@liameverett7205 2 жыл бұрын
They're definitely not shy pal. I had 4 in a few hours the other day and every bite was a screamer. My guess on the first plucks would be bream, not too many chub show their faces in the Ouse. I can count on one hand how many I've had hahaha
@HOOKEDFishingChannel
@HOOKEDFishingChannel 2 жыл бұрын
You get a lot of chublets at Overton and there's some good chub pegs on beningbrough park length which Leeds used to have opposite bank at nun but you can't go down that far now. Ive had some chub from the opposite side (widdington) so they're certainly there bud and where the boat channel is up at the top of the second field, is amazing chub fishing on the float
