Knife Making - HUNTING Knife w/ Elephant IVORY Handle (Synthetic)

Here's how we've made our classic hunting knife with a complex handle made out of elephant ivory and bog oak.

Blackening the steel:
A mixture of caustic soda (700g), potasium saltpeter (250g) and water (1,2 l)
The temperature of the solution should be kept between 120 - 140 C.
I keep the knife inside for about 30 minutes to get consistent black colour, you can manipulate the time to achieve different results, shorter period should give you dark brown or purple - ish colour.
Be careful - this mixture is highly corrosive!
Heat treatment:
-Austenizing temperature: 830 C
-Tempering: 180 C

So I watch this whole video and in the end you have a lovely knife. You did a nice blue job but you left all the rust on the handle when 20 seconds on the grinder would have cleaned it off prior to blueing but then you glue the scales on top of the rust? Or did I miss something?

We did not glue the scales on top of rust, the tang is oxidised as well. The only rust there was on the spine which was ground after anyway

I'll agree that you cleaned up the handle but there was still some junk left on the handle and the holes the water jet cut in were still rusty when you glued the scales on. And even if you left the tang rusted IMHO nothing should have any oxidation on it prior to adding the scales to the knife.

I find your knives lack of detail polish. You always leave rough spots and sharp spots. I'm not sure if you did that on purpose. The handles and shapes of your knives are very aesthetically pleasing tho
