Love this series! I loved barbie as a child, so when wheelchair-barbie came out when I was 25, I got both myself and my sister (then 5) one 😍 and the first thing my sister said was that she loved having a barbie that was just like me 😍

Oh I hate it too! I tried to watch the Chucky show, and, even though it’s supposed to be a scary show, the fact that the “kid” in that one mutilates toys ruined it for me - I couldn’t stand to watch it! Then again, I go to toy shows and buy the broken down ones to restore, so I’m probably extra sensitive lol

I made it! I just had to get a comment in Megan, I'm so excited for your scene-by-scene series on the Barbie movie!! Can we all agree that Greta Gerwig is awesome? I didn't even catch that reference to a Space Odessey! She was taking shots and taking names! The opening scene is truly one of my favorites from the movie, it's lot of fun, wonderfully performed, and an awesome historical acknowledgement about how girls were expected to play, or rather, were expected to be. And then... BARBIE. She changes the entire narrative! Play time is no longer solely about someone else you must care for, unless that's what you want to do, it's about YOU and who YOU want to be. Yay! :D I'm so curious about all of the historic Barbies now too, definitely something I'll look up in my spare time! :3

Yay! I'm so excited that you're excited! Barbie definitely changed how little girls were seen and treated (although, I did hear an interview with the creator where she was like "oh, we'll just market Barbie to moms to teach their wild girls how to become good looking brides, so that's a little disappointing - but she's evolved A LOT since then!). I'm working on Scene 2 now, but I also *have* to stay consistent with Coraline right now, so I'm not sure if I'll get a Barbie scene dissection out weekly or every other week (and the holiday business is NOT helping!) but I'm here for it, and I'm dedicated to getting to the end of this movie, so please stick with me even if I get a little slower with posting Barbie scenes than I'd prefer! Once Coraline is done Barbie will be the priority movie.

This is going to be fun. Just a note, there was a video I watched recently that talked about doll history when compared to Barbie that was quite fascinating. It was called "How Mattel rewrote toy history" by mjtanner. She discusses the different dolls that came out before Barbie. as fashion icons. This doesn't take away anything from the Barbie film for me, but just thought you might find it interesting given that you mention American girl dolls. I look forward to more in this series and don't worry about the 'day posting' plot hole. Great start to another good film.

I explained both at the beginning of this video. Coraline is the priority, Barbie is the secondary movie we're looking at (that may not get a weekly episode, depending on what else is going on), and Barbie will be available in time for Saturdays, because the algorithm doesn't favor posting two videos in a day and Coraline already owns Saturdays. Once Coraline is completed, Barbie will shift over to Saturdays and we'll likely start Encanto as the secondary movie (unless Wish is captures my attention more).

Barbie is the most confusing movie I've ever seen. It's supposed to be this feminist film yet its message is completely anti-feminism. It's so contradictory.
