I took my daughters (16 and 10, respectively, when it came out) to the theater to see this movie opening weekend. We all wore pink, it was a whole thing. I expected to like the film. What I did NOT expect was to never go more than 90 seconds in a row in the movie without laughing, crying, or both. An instant top 10 favorite movie all time for me, and *easily* the best movie I saw in 2023. The themes of parenthood (especially raising girls, as a single custodial father who’s done it alone for the last 10 years) and masculinity - toxic and otherwise - and just simply being *good enough* (a self esteem issue I’ve always struggled with), it all just absolutely broke me while I was watching. An absolutely remarkable film, wrapped up in a silly, candy-coated package.

I too wore all pink, and seeing all the women there also in pink was amazing. Leaving the theatre, you could hear everyone sniffling and choking down cries. Going into the bathroom to see everyone trying to recover, touch up makeup and complimenting everyone's outfits... it was a whole experience.

I am not a parent but i had an unforgettable experience seeing Barbie for the first time. I went with a friend of mine who was having a hard time, to say the least. They loved movies, and I agreed to go out for a day at the theater in all pink, i wore little pink shorts and a pink tank (first time in either) and expected to have a fun day at the movies. I did not expect to have one of the greatest experiences one could ever hope for in a theater in the modern age. A nearly-dead theater in Alaska was packed with people at 12:30 pm, nearly all in costume/pink regalia. We had great seats in the middle of a full auditorium, and the movie blew me away. We all laughed, we cried, and when the credits rolled the audience applauded. I was left feeling absolutely electric. I think it's one of the best films ever made.

Astutely and succinctly put! And I’ve been a LONGTIME fan of both Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, and to see them be given the reins of this, and so we got such a film like this - based on a commercial IP like Barbie and yet it really has heft and substance and something to say about agency and social mores.

The gyno visit at the end hit me way after I watched the movie for the first time. Instead of cutting to Barbie being pregnant or using the bathroom or something, we see her first big action as a human is to take charge of her reproductive health. I remember being scared shitless when I first got my period, realizing the enormity of what that meant for my life. I'm glad youngsters will have the opportunity to maybe feel empowered by seeing Barbie take charge like this.

I’m a man and I saw this in the theatre with my male friend and the audience was packed full of women. When the mom gives the struggles of being a woman speech to snap the Barbie out of her trance they all clapped and cheered loudly.

I recently attended a Wheel of Time convention and we had a Pink Ajah Barbie meetup! I had a *moment* when I was surrounded by a chorus of "hi Barbie" where I felt transported to the magical beginning of this movie in Barbieland. 🥰 One woman was wearing a formal gown and had a Barbie in the same dress, and the story was: her mom made the dress for her Barbie when she was a kid, as an adult she found a similar lace and bought 25 yards of it and asked her mom who said yes and made her the same dress the Barbie has. 😍 We were all in love. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Another fun watch with you two! I saw this movie with two 50+ year ladies. They were dressed all in pink and styled out with wigs and accessories. It made the whole thing a lot of fun. The next night we saw Oppenheimer, which while excellent, couldn’t come close to matching the Barbie experience! Thanks as always!

I've only just recently watched this movie...and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I didn't play with Barbie dolls but I do remember having the giant Barbie head and shoulders when I was little. I thought the casting was perfect and the writing was clever. I agree it had just the right amount of music/songs in it...and most of all, I loved the voice over by Helen Mirren. I don't recall that being mentioned in any of the buzz around the film, so it was a pleasant surprise. I adore Dame Helen. Can't wait to see what else you guys react to. I know you're catching up on movies, but I would LOVE to see you take on Shogun. I recently finished it and thought it was a beautifully told story. I'm still moved by the ending. You're one of my favorite reactors and I'd really enjoy watching you both discuss and review the show. Finger's crossed you'll give it a chance! 😁

I worked at a toy store and when pregnant Midge was released there was this big promotion but we were placing bets as to when it would get pulled. The doll was really creepy. Ken was always an accessory. I am going to finish watching this, but I don't understand why people think Ken should be an object in a matriarchy. Ken's had nothing, just beach. Greta Gerwig chose "sublime", Ryan Gosling said something different on every take and that is why Margot was almost about to laugh when he said 'sublime". Ryan has been singing since before the Mickey Mouse Club.

Serious question - am I the only female on Earth who was disturbed to my core by this movie? Was doing the homework with my housemate (big burly guy a little older than me - he thought it was alright), and I didn't even get 2 minutes in before my skin was crawling, and it never stopped. That horrendous opening monologue took Helen Mirren *OFF* my 'happily listen to them reading the phone book' list (that alone is something I can't forgive this movie for), and the assumption of a monolithic gender seems backwards given the push for wider acceptance of the spectrums people live on in the last few years. Is it just me? 'Cause I _really_ fkn hated this movie, and it feels like I'm the only one.

And it was one of the worst viewing experiences I've had in a _long_ time - the kind that gets you angry and creeped out all at the same time.
