The collaboration Barbie X Baby The Stars Shine Bright is such a funny doll, because Barbie is waaaaay too proportionally long for the dress. I think because the dress set was designed to be sold separately from the doll they didn't really bother with her styling, but she always stands out as one of the most awkward barbies I've ever seen.

I was hoping for Lilly Pultizer Barbie! She's one of my grail dolls and is wearing this very early 1960s shift dress and has huge Jackie O sunglasses. (Jackie Kennedy, I guess, if it's the early '60s.) And there's a Stacy doll that comes with her too! They were a Silver Label release in 2005. I was also wondering if you were going to do some more of the one-off mid-90s designer Barbies - Calvin Klein (the one with all the jean fabric), Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen. Anyway, this was still a great video. I didn't realize Vera Wang had done as many dolls for Barbie as she has.

One of my favorite Barbie collabs is with Tokidoki by Simone Legno in 2010 and then again in 2015. She was actually the first Barbie to feature a full tattoo sleeve and I love the designs 😽

Versace Barbie has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid I moved from my home town to another city and I had strong attachments to it since I was born there and grew up with my cousin. My fam doc was still in my hometown and the waits were loooong. They had a shelve full of magazines and I always went for this one that had the Versace Barbie ad in print along with a perfume sample (idk if they still do those btw maybe I’m giving away my age 😂) but I’d stare at that page for hours! She was sooo beautiful I’d never seen a doll like her and I scoured the Barbie collector site. Of course she was both sold out and out of budget for 7 year old me 😅 but I’ve always wanted to have her.

The Zac Posen set is really neat, I'd love to have, but starts at $1937. CAD. I just bought the sewing studio doll from Amazon for $33.CAD. ; ) I'll swap out the doll for a mtm one with a CEO face, then she can get to work designing! : D

I've always wanted to have one of those Moschino barbies but as the time goes by i fear their vinyl/pleather outfits will start to crack and I'll be spending 500$ for a flaking outfit. I actually have one of the guo pei dolls, blue and gold lunar new year. I got my chance to buy her when mattel creations had their black Friday sale last year. I rerooted her to have longer hair and a hime cut. I also have the first mackie holiday angel. Once again mainly bought her for the doll herself lol! I can't think of many designer barbies i want, Moschino are the ones i like most cause the style fits with barbie's general aesthetic so well! One that i was surprised by and want to get eventually is Pottery barn kids barbie. She has the most adorable pijama set. Granted we got a similar set for the barbie movie fashion pack but that one fits more loose (I still love it and i have my rewind schooling around Steffie doll wearing it) The Aleali May fashion pack is one that comes to mind that i actually really like and wanna get sometime.

This was so fun! I had no idea there were so many Anna Sui dolls, and those were my favorite, along with the Tarina Tarantino one. As for what designer I would like Barbie to work with, now I really want a Betsy Johnson Barbie. That would be so fun.

The Tarina Tarantino doll is a strong contender for favorite Barbie in my collection. There are only a couple that might edge past her, for purely sentimental reasons. I reeeeeeeally wanted the Anna Sui Barbie back when she first came out--in retrospect I regret not making more of an effort to acquire her at the time. Other designer Barbies I love are the Todd Oldham collab from 1998, and some of the spectacular dolls Brian Lars created in the late 90s/early 2000s, especially Sugar and Mbili.

The Bill Blass barbie was stunning!! There was one that was a colab with believe it or not a very high end fancy brand of dishes that are mad expensive but I can't remember the name exactly. Of course the Mackie dolls are my favorite

i used to get the collector catalogs back in the day when they were still issuing them, i remember the loubiton ones VIVIDLY. but my favorites were always the Byron Lars 2011 ones. Sugar was my favorite, but oh, the whole collection is stellar, so much detail in the hair and clothes and even the makeup! honestly, just an incredible juxtaposition of shapes and fabrics! truly worth checking out if you haven't, tbh

Omg that 2004 Versace barbie!!! Me and my cousin entered a Barbie fashion design contest and the price was this barbie! My cousin won, and I thought it was unfair bc her mom helped her make the barbie's outfit.... We were 5 and 6 years old at the time and I got Clickits jewerly as consolation prize. Idk if there were different categories for adults and kids, but I remember how amazing the adult collectors creations were. I remember thinking how weird it was that you couldn't take the barbie's dress off or even pose her 💀 My cousin kept her as decoration but idk if she still has it somewhere.

It was Not well resived, they announced the collab on a stage infront of super excited sims fans - yet they got meet with COMPLETE silence. I would love to see you talk about barbie's unnoficial designer collabs (the dolls that take inspiration from real designers but aren't labeled as such). The biggest example I can think of are the numerous references to Alexander Mcqueen in early 2010s barbies (such as silkstone darya dressed in fall 2010, 2010 holiday and hb vampire both dressed in fw 2008, silkstone walking suit possibly inspired by fall 2009)

I love your videos. They are always insightful and interesting. If you want to see the gold Christian Dior dress on a model, look up Jerry Hall (Mick Jagger's ex). She wore that dress on the runway and looked stunningly beautiful. I don't understand why they made the Barbie doll version with an "Evita" type bun, when Jerry Hall wore her signature long hair cascading from one shoulder. Even the makeup is more dramatic on Jerry Hall. But do look her up. You'll see what I mean.

Like tomorrow the 65th anniversary Barbie is releasing and I'll end up missing out on her cause Mattel decided they don't care enough about international buyers to fix their shipping problems...

I'm disappointed in myself though because I spent $500 last month and wanted to make up for it somewhat this month. I might have to take a month off buying entirely. That's a good point about zeroing in on what you like best. I really like ones with good display boxes, and anatomically proportionate. I'm figuring out what I like. I like the 90's and naughties ones a lot. I just received a used 2006 Wizard of Oz Dorothy today and love her so much I wanted to cry. : )
