Barbenheimer became a legit phenomenon. When non film nerds are talking about a double feature, dressing up for a movie, and debating about which one to watch first, you know it's not some manufactured BS. And the fact that both movies massively over performed is awesome. Almost everyone I knew saw one or both of these movies this weekend. People WANT to go to the movies, they just need a good reason too in a competitive landscape. We also need to remember that half of the point is the social aspect. It's nice to see people get excited about something like this.

In Estonia, the release of Barbie was wildly successful. We are quite introverted people, but seeing how we all collectively went to the cinema dressed in pink, with whole screenings selling out like hotcakes, and during the movie even clapping twice - at the start and at the end. The success of both Barbie and Oppenheimer is such a wholesome story and a great breath of fresh air-- especially considering how cynical and discouraging the industry has often felt this year, both on and off screen. And to see people really support both films is something you would think is rare nowadays.

They realized the product they had was awesome, they talked about it A LOT on social media through creating memes around their film and the competition of both Oppenheimer and Barbie. The irony is, I heard WB wanted the Barbie premiere to go up against Nolan after he parted ways with them and what probably propelled this to become one of his top grossers is precisely because it premiered with Barbie and the Barbenheimer effect 😂 I watched both over the weekend and tbh I think both films truly owe their success to the people who came up with the Barbenheimer and how it all went super viral. I wouldn't have watched these 2 in the cinema if not for the eventisation of Barbenheimer. And I don't think anyone can strategise this kind of virality either... Amazing... All I can say is wow what a time to be alive 😂

Barbie became the second highest grossing opening weekend in Brazil ever, second only to Endgame! Everything is pink here. I ate a pink pizza this Saturday!🤣 the Barbie marketing team was great, but the amount of organic promotion this movie got is incredible! That pizza had nothing to do with the studio, but everyone wanted to jump on the pink bandwagon. Glad the movie is actually good! I did the Barbenheimer experience on Thursday. Barbie in XD, Oppenheimer in IMAX. went to different theaters and I loved it. This weekend will go down in history.

I'm really happy to hear Barbenheimer worked! I watched Barbie yesterday and had a ton of fun. I have yet to watch Oppenheimer but I plan on doing so this week. Side note: the concessions at the theatre I went to were so busy that they were sold out of certain food items so the one item I wanted I couldn't get. One of the staff told me they had around six hundred movie goers over the weekend. Impressive.

First time i watched 2 movies in the cinema on the same weekend. was truly hyped for oppenheimer and had to support barbie as well. it is/was a worldwide cultural event, so happy to see that movies still can do that.

I NEVER thought barbie would make that much. It was a movie that I couldn’t quite get a gauge on as far as interest. I believe she has a shot at the billion dollar club. 💕💅🏾

For Mission Impossible, I wonder if talks of the strikes had some influence in its opening not getting pushed to August or later.
@Grizmeyer Жыл бұрын
Maybe, I honestly think they just didn't want to budge from being in the middle of summer. August has a reputation for being for third string "quirky" blockbusters. It absolutely would've done better there though. Even giving MI7 the date that Transformers had, and then putting Transformers in August would've worked better

I think Barbie is going to have some incredible legs… I’m looking at showings at my local AMC, and nearly every showing until August 3rd is currently almost full! Granted, this is the AMC at Disney Springs, so I’m curious if it’s different at a less touristy theater. Either way, I think it indicates a pretty nice hold for Barbie next week!

This weekend was great, but I feel like next week's chart is going to be even more interesting because we're going to be able to see the 2nd weekend's drop/legs % for Barbenheimer. If we look at Monday's numbers, the legs promise to be very good and a LOT of movement in the 2023 charts is going to happen in the next 2 weeks.

I would have seen Oppenheimer this past weekend if I could've but I could only get 70mm IMAX tickets on August 6th. I really enjoyed Barbie and I loved going to the theater and seeing all the pink. It's been awhile since I've seen that kind of excitement in the air that wasn't a superhero movie and it was fun. I love how organic this whole thing was. The studios couldn't have foreseen this and while I'm sure they're thrilled, we all know a bunch of clueless execs are plotting to see how they can replicate this and it won't be organic, the audience will see right through it and it will fail.

Barbie is a shorter movie - I notice it’s got so many more showings per day. Oppenheimer still packed this week especially IMAX ❤️👍🏻

If I was Tom Cruise and Paramount I would do an advertising push in another week celebrating the movie experience of Barbie / Oppenheimer and at the same time reminding moviegoers Mission is still there. I think people will circle back to it, but they might need a reminder it is still in theaters.

I am a huge MI fan but DRp1 trailers were not exciting enough and word of mouth is making up for it. I also believe a lot of people would prefer to see part 1 and 2 closer together and not a whole year out. I'm hoping that DRp2 will make DRp1 feel more interesting once the full story is out.

How do we get Hollywood to recognize what happened this weekend? Three people who came out of the indie film world that used to make small movies (Gerwig, Baumbach, Nolan) have been given opportunities in their careers to grow but retain their voices and vision and now that is paying off in a saving of the industry kind of weekend. For film nerds like them, that is what motivated me to see these films WAY more than IP or SFX or even innovative marketing.

I bought my tickets for both Barbie & Oppenheimer weeks in advance and it was already difficult to find seats for Barbie. Can't remember the last time that's happened. My niece missed out on tickets and ended going to Transformers. There's money Transformers wouldn't have made otherwise.

I was totally going to do the Barbenheimer double feature this past weekend, but life got in the way and I didn't. I ended up watching Barbie on Wednesday, and the theater was 90% full, and it was a sea of pink outfits! The energy felt like a scaled down Endgame. There was a lot of engagement, laughter and a few tears. So I can definitely see it having good legs. I'm going to see Oppenheimer either tonight of tomorrow night, and I'm equally excited.
