Barbie earrings remind me of Jem earrings. At that time Barbie and the Rockers and Jem and the Holograms were competing each other. Do you know that Mattel is making a new Barbie and the Rockers doll? It's not a repro it's more like a new version w/ modern Barbie face mold. The new one comes with 80's outfits to bring homage to the 80's and Barbie and the Rockers dolls same thing for the box too. Not sure if there's going to have her friends in the line.

Oh definitely. I don't think that was a mistake on Mattel's part. They were clearly trying to copy Jem... and it hurt both lines sales, and eventually Jem was cancelled. :( I saw that! I can't believe they'd do that. I just think that new doll has no business being apart of such an iconic line. The outfits are 80s inspired alright, but only in the most obvious way! Use the Memphis style, add some punchy colors and wa la... "80s". She has nothing in common with the original dolls... and I doubt there will be others in the line. Barbie doesn't have "friends" anymore... every doll IS Barbie now :/

Barbie and the Rockers and Jem ended up with a sad note on that. But I think years later both of them have a little cult following and popular among the doll community. I also doubt that there aren't gonna have Barbie and Rockers friends to the new line. Barbie is now in every race and those new type of bodies. I think they shouldn't make the new one since it's called Barbie "AND THE ROCKERS" that we expect to see her friends on the line too. It would be nice if the new Barbie and the Rockers should be a reunion doll line. The line should have all the old gang back together.W/ their old face sculpts and 80's outfits to the homage of that decade. And the line should've been release back in 2015 to celebrate 30th anniversary by doing a reunion for that line.

I really do! I think the Derek mold is very handsome and breaks up the monotony. And that Ken is... interesting, to say the least. I actually kind of liked that sculpt. I just enjoy the variety. What do you think? :)

LOL I laughed when you mention that Dana is really pale haha I was like "Dah, she's Asian" LOL! This is the first video I've seen from you, I like you, you seem really genuinely nice! I found out about these dolls only yesterday and instantly went shopping online to find them. I ADORE the 80s makeup hair and fashion. So have bought the whole original set, the first set and will receive them soon. I didn't like the second line you show in this video as much as the first line so got them. I think I love Diva the best she reminds me of the female singer Grace Slick from the music video "Nothings gonna stop us now"? Love!!!

My Dancing Dee Dee has the bright orange eyeshadow. It annoyed me a little at first cos i wanted the neutrality of yours, but i've come to appreciate it. Especially after cutting her hair, making it shoulder-length. She's one of my special favorites.

out of all of them- I think the orange haired one is the prettiest. my least fav is the long black haired one . Not a fan of the face mold nor the dark blue shadow. But the company put a lot of thought into the costumes - they all are cute !

I love your enthusiasm for 80s Barbies. I grew up with the dolls of the SuperStar era, and I've collected mainly 70s and 80s dolls ever since. I love both lines of the Rockers, and have at least two of each, and I agree that 1987 Barbie is much more cool looking than 1986 Barbie. I prefer the 1986 versions of DeeDee, Diva and Dana though. I think Derek is slightly more appealing in the gold outfit, but be careful with him if you buy him in the box. The gold fabric of his jacket is prone to deterioration, the shiny metallic coating will flake off the brushed nylon fabric, leaving a sticky residue on the fabric. Ken's outfit is usually pretty durable, but of course all of the metallic jersey and screen-printed spandex fabrics will become dull and worn if handled too much, as you no doubt have already learned in your doll collecting career. So glad I discovered your channel, I'm loving your take on all these dolls that I've loved since back in the day.

I've been wanting to review my Beauty Secrets Barbie. I don't have too many from 80-83 honestly. That seems like a popular time and all the dolls are super expensive lol. I'm really wanting Loving You and Pink & Pretty. Hopefully one day...

Yeah, those aren't particularly expensive or hard to find. Sometimes it pays to stalk ebay for weeks because you can find deals. Like I won a Pretty Changes Barbie MIB for $37 which isn't bad at all. And my Beauty Secrets was like $50. Not terrible for her MIB. You just have to be on the lookout! Fingers crossed :)

one of the things I realized is Barbie doesn't really have a face for heavy makeup. Her features are too sweet so sometimes it looks like the makeup is wearing her . That said , I love Barbie's outfit the best but I would probably get Diva I love her red hair and subtle makeup. I definitely want the Derek doll from both series !

I kind of agree with you, even though I really love the Barbie in this series a lot. I like the fact that her makeup is so heavy, since she rarely does that. :) Diva is very cute, too. I like that the line is "even" with who is wearing or not wearing heavy make up. The ones who aren't wearing heavy makeup have big hair haha.

I had diva omg honestly I couldn't stand Barbie in the rockers cuz deep down in my heart I knew Jem came out first and it's ironic because Barbie and the rockers released first but Jem was the original concept from Hasbro and Mattel had somebody on the inside spine and let them know about Hasbro's plan so yeah I was a die-hard jem and Misfits fan but I'm not going to lie I loved Barbie and the rockers second edition especially diva
