Barbour Ashby Deep Review. Why is the Best Barbour Waxed Jacket.

I wear my Ashby pretty much everyday from mid-Sept to mid-May (in England). I send it off to South Shields every three years for re-waxing. I don't have the liner, I wear a thick polo neck woolly jumper under it in the winter. And don't buy a hood, just stuff a tweed cap in the pocket for rain showers. Perfect coat. And great review.

I’ve had an Ashby jacket for years, but I had to have the lining changed in the arms as they were totally unbreathable and you get sweaty shirt sleeves with long wear.

These are excellent. I have two. One from 1993, a classic Bedale. Had it repaired extensively this Summer. I do love it.

My field test didn't go so well. Ashby wax jacket MADE IN MOLDAVIA. Shower proof its not 300 yrds in moderate rain and it took 2 days to dry out. Walked the woods a few times in the dry. no breathable membrane jersey and arms soaked had to turn jacket inside out to dry. I know people who have had their jackets 20yr, so thought I was buying into that? I have not. Cheap import hiding behind their reputation. So cannot wear in the wet and cannot wear in the dry. Not fit for purpose. Was thinking of buying a gilet but not buying into foreign made

You are correct. Another well used hunting/country clothing manufacturer, Hunter, did the exact same thing by going to a foreign manufacturer. In the 80/90s they were excellent well made boots. Now they and Barbour are fashion brands, fit only for a weekend at Glastonbury.

@paul914 I don’t have an Ashby so I can’t speak to those. I have, however, owned a Bedale (made in the UK) for several years and it has been incredible. I use it from everything from wearing over a suit to go to church to wearing it in the countryside to hunt birds and deer in the rain and snow. It has not failed me yet. Maybe British made is the way to go. 🇬🇧 Or perhaps you got a lemon.

hace poco dañe mi Bedale con unos rallones en la manga, recomendarias la barra de cera para eliminar las rallas ? o que recomendarias para disimular estas, las chaqueta tiene apenas tres semanas?

Probablemente las rayas ocurren por qué pierde la cera, si puedes usa la cera de Barbour o la barra y seguro que las marcas desaparecen
