Hi, I have a 2017 dodge grand caravan. I have had my front rotors turned and replaced several times. The owner of the shop said the front rotors are notorious for warping. The rotors ate less than a year old and I just had them turned last week before going on a trip. I drove 800 miles and the vehicle started shaking while going down steep hills. I was actually very careful this trip and didn't ride the breaker at all. During the last repair the mechanic stated that the only way to permanently fix this problemb is to buy cold forged rotors and that they are super expensive. Does this sound right? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the video. I have changed my front rotors and pads because it was diagnosed with - Offside Front Service brake fluctuating. After the rotors and pads were changed only in the front, I still had a similar fluctuating issue. The steering is not vibrating, it feels like something is stuck on the rotors and has this intermittent braking feeling. I have changed the front rotors and pads again recently and I still have to drive the car to see if the symptoms persist. I intend to change the rear rotors and pads asap. If the symptom will persists even after changing the rear rotors and pads, what would you suspect? My car is a Mazda 3, petrol, from 2016. Thank you.

Id suggests having a tech look at it. Find out exactly what is causing the problem. Go from there.

@@BarboursAutoHelp Hi. Problem solved by changing the rear discs and pads. All the symptoms are gone now. Your method of diagnosing warped rotors is efficient, at least it worked in my case. Both rear rotors (discs) look bad on the inside and also on both sides the inside pads were stuck - not sure if this contributed to the symptoms. I have cleaned the calipers, sliding pins and replaced both rotors and pads - no more vibrations. Thanks mate!

so, what is the tolerance when using a dial indicator?

For some reason alot of utube videos don't call it warped rotors. They call it runout. I prefer the term warped rotors. Just rebuild front right caliper due to frozen piston. Ruined rotor causing warpage. I replaced the rotors. But bought adial indicater w/magnetic base to double check the hub

I also prefer the term warped rotors. Hope you talk goes well. Thanks for commenting.

does warped rear rotor likely to cause the steering wheel vibration? I have just replaced front rotor 1 month ago

You seems to have a very enriched knowledge about brakes and cars in general. It is very rare to find an honest mechanic these days..everyone is after the $$$ and sell crap.Where are you located in the US?

I installed brand new rotors and brake pads. Rear and front. Idint have a vibration before with the old ones. Since I got the new ones my whole car shakes except for the steering wheel.

Would shaking from left front end be a dead give away of new rotors

Not necessarily

Hey there, I changed my brake pads recently after running the old ones with the wear indicator squealing (my bad) for like 200 miles. After changing the new brake pads, I feel a little shake in steering wheel when I apply brake above 120kmph. It feels like I have slightly damaged one or more rotors with the old brake pads. But what I don't understand is how come I didn't feel the vibration with the worn-out brake pads, but only with the new brake pads? Another thing is, the pads on my front and rear left worn out more than the ones on the right. What could be the reason? Thank you so much!

the rotor has to be g;owing hot before it can warp, the very common cause is your gliding pin, they cant move freely anymore, because it has rusted already and makes the pads engage to the rotors that causes pulsation or steering vibrate, have the problem on my 2003 camry , cleaned the gliding [pins sanded the bore of the pins put some lube ,,,,, my smiles are to my ears,,,, the problem is gone
