You did not measure the thickness correctly - you can see the rust edge around the rotor; that's where the pads did not make contact with the rotor; so, your measurement is going to be wider than actual thickness of the rotor. A micrometer is the proper tool to measure rotor thickness in this case. Or, grind down the edge on both sides of the rotor so the caliper arms make contact with the actual rotor surface. Also, never strike a wrench with a hammer, especially a 12-point wrench on a 6-point fastener as you can very easily round the head. In this case you should be using a 6-point socket. While checking the wheel bearing, you should also check the hub at the outside edge; this will show if the hub is bent, which will cause a wobble effect.

You don't need to grind down the edges to measure the thickness with a caliper. A trick is to put two nuts or something else inside the caliper arms, and then zero it. Now you just put the rotor in between the two nuts and caliper, and measure the rotor thickness at the middle of the rotor.

Agree. Looks about 1mm lip both sides. Probably just a bit under. Should have used a micrometer.

Just need the right thickness gage, calipers are not usually good for that.

Hey man, thanks for the video, I just have a question tho, I recently changed rotors and pads because the OEM pads was leaving deposits on the stock rotors ( bad quality pads) causing vibration when breaking, but after the dealership changed the rotors and pads, no more shaking when breaking, but now I get a vibration after 70mph + speeds, do you think maybe the messed up the wheel bearing while trying to remove the old rotors? TIA

so i have question, I have a 2006 BMW z4 3.0si and Ive been having a weird noise on my rear left wheel I got 3 of my friends checked already and none of them found out what causing the noise. the sound is like a "tak tak tak tak (like 2 metals scratching to each other)and sometimes a high pitch noise" then I got it checked on a repair shop they said its a warped rotor. so before I buy a rotor I just wanna make sure its the rotor, ive experienced some wiggles while driving, breaking, and slowing down. and theres also a helicopter sound at the back that im pretty sure its caused by the warped rotor and too much wiggle that's why. I need your help please. ive been having this problem for past 3months now. thanks.!!

How do you check the Wheel Hub Assembly with a Dial Gauge? 😣

Do the exact same procedure as measuring your brake rotor as shown in this video. Install dial indicator perpendicular to wheel hub, find low spot on wheel hub then zero the dial indicator. Then rotor wheel hub to see if you are within spec. I am not sure what the spec is, but I would guess it would also be 0.002 inch or less as well. Make sure to clean off rust on wheel hub assembly before performing this task.

hey man I'm having trouble with my brakes. so I got new rotors and brake pads a few weeks ago and when I brake the squeak and I'm not sure why if their new and I've tried taking them to the car wash just in case there was dirty or small pebble in there somewhere but no they keep squeaking

+leo silva Did you do them yourself or did a shop do them? If you did them, did you clean off the oil on the rotor? Did you grease the slides? Did you clean the hardware of the brakes? If a shop did them... Bring it back. lol

+leo silva How long have you been driving with the new pads and rotors? The squeaking sound doesn't necessarily mean any safety issues. Just drive it a few hundred miles, the squeaking noise should go away.

Manila Kid I would say between 100-150 miles

+leo silva If the squeaking noise is still there after 300 miles, go take it back to the shop and have them look at it. Another thing to look at is if the shop changed out your brake pad shim's. These are prone to make noises too if never changed. I change mine ever time I do a brake pad replacement. They are only a few dollars on rockauto.

Put it into nuetral before you pull the brake caliper off so you don't over extend the piston, it should spin for you then. The park lock pin is keeping you from turning it.

You didn't show us how to check the Wheel Hub Bearing Assembly Free Play with the Dial Gauge ONLY by shaking the Wheel Hub Assembly up and down and left and right 😑😡😑
