I would be very, very interested in a video on your heating system - comfort, cost to run, cost to install, there is a lot of talk about the IR heaters and very little seems to come from people with experience living with them. Maybe you’d consider putting something together? Not your usual style, but I think others would also be interested in your take on it.

That’s awesome, we’d like to build a house next time as we think it would be far quicker than having to renovate around an old wonky house!!! As for camera and gear we have most of it listed in the description of the video, hope that helps? Good luck on the house build and creating videos 👌🏻

Is this electric element thin enough, on purpose, so that you can apply the tile adhesive directly? Because other applications I have seen pour self levelling concrete first and use tile adhesive on that.

@@shuhenarabegum7019 we didn’t as there was too many gaps on the floorboards where the self leveling would have dripped through. So I just used the tile adhesive to level the tiles afterwards

Teamwork makes the dream work :) - well done both. I'm looking to retrofit UFH in our bungalow. I'm keen to get your feedback on the price to run electric as i've heard quite a lot of consistent feedback on how expensive it is to run? Or do you have solar/battery storage to help? Regards
@BARBSTER3606 ай бұрын
Unfortunately no we don’t have either battery/solar to run it so as the price of electric increases so does the price to run the electric UFH! But that’s the same with all gas/oil prices too. And we don’t have oil/gas going into our property so electric was our only option and thought UF gives a nice cosy feel!

@basedlogic8 күн бұрын
You actually got rid of that wood floor to put in a tile floor which is basically at exactly the same height? You could have built up the addition and it would have been level with the wood floor, and you would have kept the character of the old wood floor, instead of the sterilization of large tiles.
@samli8112 Жыл бұрын
I heard electric underfloor heating is slow in heating up a room and expensive to run because of high electricity costs. Are these true?
@jodiegriffiths-q5e10 ай бұрын
Hello was it ok to put tile direct on the UFH matt
@BARBSTER36010 ай бұрын
yeah that matt is designed to be tiled straight over using flexible tile adhesive (the adhesive also has to state that it can be used with under floor heating too). Or you could use a flexible floor leveller (again one that also says for under floor heating) over the matt to give you a flat surface and then tile on top of that.

Personally I would of stuck the backer boards down and screeded over the under floor mat. You missed one big thing when laying the tiles, you never back buttered the tiles! Not doing this on large tiles causes trapped air pockets and they don’t stick properly
@benhart777Ай бұрын
Electric underfoot heating isn’t suitable for heating rooms, they’re only really meant for bathrooms to make the tiles nice and warm. Also, that thermal backer board is nowhere near thick enough to insulate so you’ll end up losing a huge amount of energy through the floor. You should have insulated with rigid foam. Also, your tiles weren’t laid properly and they’ll crack and get air bubbles underneath. For the rest of the house, hydronic underfloor heating powered by an air to water heat pump would be superior in every way. Or an air to air heat pump, which would have given you the ability to cool in the summer as well as heat. Not impressed
@BARBSTER360Ай бұрын
@@benhart777 “…not impressed” 😅 we never set out to impress anyone but ourselves! Air/water heating wasn’t possible in our cortage as electric was our only option. We did everything ourselves and saved £1000s on labour costs so if our UF cost a bit more to run then that’s not an issue. Not a single tiles has popped or crack so you’re wrong with your assumption about them not being laid properly!!
