Phew !! that takes me back fifty years to my first house renovation . I am now, fifty years later ,on my seventh house renovation, surprise surprise it’s a bungalow. All done, no more renovations, I’m just going to sit in the garden and listen to the birds.

I am totally creeped out because only a couple of weeks ago, I was wondering what had happened to the two of you! And … here you are! I am beyond amazed at the enormity of what you had taken on, to begin with, and what you ultimately achieved on your own as complete renovation neophytes. Stunning. You even basically architecturally redesigned your space and were able to fit it all out with brand new technology while doing each stage properly and cost effectively. You didn’t rush and, as a result, you got the most gorgeous house that you wanted from top to bottom. Plus! Interesting build. You definitely modernized this house. I just wished you would have kept more of its original charme like the beautiful wooden floors, the winter garden or the brickbuilt fireplace. But then again, as you said, its your home only you have to live in with your own personal design

I really love all the smart details you have put into your home. But the thing i love the most is your spirit and the note you have ended on. I've renovated three houses on my own and for me it was always about just getting the job done. For you two, you have achieved something much more substantial in that you have embraced the journey. yes it is hard work both mentally and physically doing an old house up. We went through every emotion over the 4+ years doing our house up but we were so deep into it and spent so much money on it we just had to keep fighting through it and luckily managed to get to the other side! That's the main advice, always imagine how much better it will be in the end :)

I know it was your first house. But I have a few tips for you. Interior walls should also be insulated. This can be particularly important in wet areas. It also prevents sound from escaping to the outside. Then very important when painting. Always paint from top to bottom and one coat at a time. This not only saves energy, time and paint, but also looks better. Always paint tiles, even with adhesive. They could come loose over time. I would have done something different in one or two places, but I would say that overall it is very successful! Respect for seeing it through. 4.5 years is a long time.
