I believe Ter Stegen is a better goalkeeper than Victor Valdez. Ter Stegen is a better keeper in terms of keeping skills, even though Valdez is better than Marc in terms of footy skills but Mats has improved a lot this season in terms of both minimising mistakes and as well as being cool and getting impressive saves.

I stopped at Valdez. No hate towards him, but Ter Stegen didn't have Xavi and Iniesta alongside Messi who would hold the ball for 90% of the game, which leaves him to ACTUALLY be part of the team and have an impact on the game and result. That's one way too look at it, the other one is their succes save rate and their general ability, in which Ter Stegen wins regardles. I feel bad for the dude...as i'm convinced that he's genuenly the best goal keeper in the world.

For all those people arguing about why Ter Stegen is a better shot stopper than Valdez he agreed. It also goes to the manager when he chose Pep(No surprise). Pep's philosophy was take the ball and pass the ball. That is why he chose Valdez who was much better on the ball. And think about it, you wouldn't need to do much if you had a team like that. With the best midfield trio ever. A very solid back line that is good on the ball and 2 Messi's on the team? What else do you want?

I don't agree on some comparisons and outcomes: 1. Valdés vs Ter Stegen = Ter Stegen, because he is easily one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. Valdés was from the youth system, and had some good moments (his last season was his personal best btw), but overall wasn't always very reliable. Conceded way too many goals because of blunders, especially for a goalkeeper. It actually says more about how god the Guardiola Barcelona side was, winning so many titles DESPITE having Valdés at goal. 2. Alves vs Semedo vs Roberto = Alves. Not that difficult. 3. Puyol vs Piqué = Puyol. One of the best central defenders of all time. The ultimate leader, fair play, strong in 1v1 duels, solid marking, smart interceptions, technical, and a total beast in the air. Also this video is bullshit, because Piqué was a substitute during the 08/09 season. Márquez and Puyol were the heart of the defense, until the former conceded a severe injury. 4. Piqué vs Márquez vs Lenglet = Piqué. Lenglet is overrated, and only plays because Umtiti was injured and Valverde is a headstrong coach. Márquez in 2009 was both really important in the build-up and defense in Pep's team. Piqué is having one of his best seasons so far, and therefore gets the benefit of the doubt. 5. Abidal vs Alba = tie. Abidal was a much better defender and also a fair player. Alba is quicker, more technical, and has better attacking tributes than Abidal. But he is also an annoying cheating diver with a rotten personality. Choosing between these two depends on the strength of your central defenders. 6. Touré vs Busquets = Busquets, although Touré was physically stronger and could also play as an attacking midfielder. 7. Xavi vs Rakitic = Xavi. Rakitic wasn't bought as a replacement for Iniesta, but for Xavi. He also has more in common with Xavi than Iniesta, because he is a passing midfielder that defends and collects the ball everywhere on the pitch with a great free kick. Of course, Xavi was a lot better. Vidal doesn't play on that position at all. 8. Iniesta vs Coutinho = Iniesta. Both are little ball magicians that can play as a CAM or on the left wing, but yeah... Iniesta is one of the best midfielders of all time, especially in 2009, and is a living Barcelona legend. 9. Messi 2009 vs Messi 2019 = tie. Messi in 2009 was much quicker and unpredictable, the current Messi is more experienced and sleeker. He plays in a different role now, where he doesn't need to rely on his pace. He also scores more today than in 2009, because... yeah he takes all the free kicks and penalties and his teammates allow him to shoot more on goal. In 2009, Eto'o and Henry scored a lot of goals too. 10. Henry vs Dembélé = Henry. Both French and pacey, Henry was a much better striker and more efficient player overall. Of course, Dembélé has a long way to go and he plays terrific for his age, he does lose the ball very often and could work more on his vision and overall understanding of the game. Not sure why he isn't on this list... the only reason why he doesn't play right now is because he is injured. 11. Eto'o vs Suarez = Eto'o. The Eto'o from 2009 was just unstoppable. He was too quick, scored a lot of goals and was just more direct than Suarez. That's not Suarez' fault, because he is mainly there to serve as Messi's slave in front, doing twice the pressing work and allowing Messi to get in scoring positions. Overall, I think Eto'o was a more direct number 9 and a scorer of really important goals, and Suarez has that x-factor that allows him to score the most impossible or beautiful goals. Trainer: Guardiola. Not just because he allowed Barcelona to play their typical total football, but also because Valverde is just not a very good coach. Best subs: Cillessen, Sylvinho, Vermaelen, Roberto, Arthur, Keita, Bojan, Pedro.

I would still prefer Toure over Busquests mainly because his defensive skills were so impressive. With CM like Iniesta and Xavi who posses such amazing technique, passing, vision and offensive skills, I as a manager would feel safer to add more of the defensive qualities Toure had. As a Barcelona fan who adored Valdes back in the day, I don´t think you can make any case for him being a better goal keeper than Ter Stegen. I have a feeling Ter Stegen is still underrated outside Spain, on this channel included He does the same incredible reflex saves and one on one saves as De Gea and Oblak, and combined with how uniquely talented he is with the ball at his feet, how well he reads the game and handles aerial situations, I dont´t think you can make a case for there being a better all round goal keeper in the world these days! Valdes, for all his heartfelt key saves, was not in quite the same league. On another note: I am pretty sure Piqué played on the right and Puyol on the left in 08/09? Not that it matters much. We would have the same partnership regardless.

Agree with everything but goalie. Ter Stegen is at the moment one of the best goalies if not the best in the world. This season I'd say he's been the best especially after de Gea making more mistakes than normal. Valdes was good and important for the system but never really in the talks to be one of the best.
