truly one of Sondheim's best. A quiet, beautiful, complicated call-and-response. this version will forever live on-and Susan Browning's voice is just absolute perfection

Love this song the most out of the whole soundtrack, I think. I can't understand why it's not more popular. It's beautiful and poignant.

I’ve always loved this song. Not one of the more famous songs from this show but I love the tempo, simplicity, and the great chord changes. I would love to have seen this cast. Seen the show a few times but not until the 90’s

Her vocal is crystal clear here, almost as though she's singing directly into my ear. Beautiful. One of Sondheim's best, thus one of the best ever.

So pretty, so witty. He kept going, and in the same vibe wrote “Pretty Women.” Anybody else hear it?

i just recently came to know Susan Browning by way of 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman' in the role of Nurse Pat Gimble. It's interesting to see just how talented she was. She had such a beautiful voice (even speaking) and had such a gentle aura about her. I was saddened to learn she had passed away. RIP Susan

She was nominated for a Tony for this role. A incredible song. Maybe only Sondheim could write a song like this. I cherish the video of the cast recording.

if you look at the songs leading up to this song and after in the soundtrack, you would expect another intense, hectic number. however, sondheims genius mind added a song with simplicity and peace. which is what I think makes the song so much more beautiful. i will forever love this song

I guess they recorded the album so late at night after a performance. They could rest the next day until the next evening

I love song...I listen to it a lot...I think I have the dialogue memorized, word for word...I really like it when he sings: "You're a special girl, June!" And she corrects him right away and says her name is "April." Ha ha...Love it.

Dean Jones was released from his contract just weeks after the show opened. the show just a month after it opened. Larry Kert, his stand-in, took over the role of Robert for the remainder of the run. Larry Kert is the only cast replacement to be nominated for a Tony Award; he replaced Dean Jones shortly after Company opened in 1970.
