There is a great connection by local (in some situations high-speed train) & sleeper train between Barcelona, the capital of the Spanish region Catalonia to Paris. It's possible to travel on a sleeper train via different routes. In this video I'll travel via Latour de Carol (Lator de Querol). The first part from Barcelona is with a local commuter train, called Rodalies, these trains won't pop-up in the international timetable (for example Interrail / Eurail app, or DB planner), however they do provide great local connections from Barcelona into Spain.
This trip report has been split up in 2 video's. The first video is on the Rodalies from Barcelona to Latour de Carol, in France. In Part 1 I'll show the railway station of Barcelona Sants, the trains and the views from the train. The second video is on the sleeper train (Intercité de nuit) from Latour de Carol to Paris. In part 2 I'll show the railway station of Latour de Carol, the trains (non-refurbished trains, date of recording is April 2022) and some views from the train.
On Both video's I'll explain something more about these routes as well, this part is the same for both video's.

what a beautiful trip! not a lot of people choose the way by Latour-de-Carol and I thinks it's really sad because the region is beautiful (im from south of Toulouse so I'm there). thank you for this video :))

Thank you so much for this great video, it really helped me to do the same thing! The trip was quite smooth until we got stucked in Foix due an electric failure because of the storm, that affected the previous train and made us arrive in Paris an hour late. I missed my next train (TGV to Frankfurt) and I couldn't change my flexible ticket through the SNCF app, I couldn't get an answer from SNCF neither from social media nor chatbot, and at the office in Austerlitz they told me to change my ticket to Frankfurt in the departure station of that train (Gare de l'Est), but the office in the latter station didn't open until 9 AM. The next trains were fully booked. So I had to beg the chief of the next train to let me in even though I didn't get my ticket formally changed. He let me in but it was quite a stressful experience. I would repeat the trip, but definitely not with a correspondance.

Thanks for posting such a great series of travel videos. I have travelled to the Latour de Carol a few times. The first time I planned to stay at a Hotel in Latour but this was cancelled by the hotel before my stay and I was booked into a great Hotel in Bourg Madame (a few kms walk from Puigcerda (another interesting town)). On this trip, after taking the train from Barcelona, I caught the Train Jaune to Villefranche de Conflent and down to Perpignan and then Nimes, I then took the local line to Clermont Ferrand and intercity to Paris Bercy. I travelled a few years later to the same Hotel at Bourg Madame and after travels via Puigcerda to areas along the Barcalona line, took le train Jaune to Latour de Carol and a local train to Toulouse, stayed a day or so with relatives and took the TGV to Montparnasse and on to London. In my dreams I would like to take the train from Zaragossa to Canfranc then somehow cross into France and pick up local transport to Oloron and the French rail network (probably involve me pushing my Fiets over the Border in the mountains!

Sounds like a lot of great adventures. Actually in this same trip I also took a train from Zaragoza to Canfranc that's a really scenic route.

The sleeper trains on the two routes, La Tour de Carol and Portbou, serve different markets. Not everyone is going to Barcelona. Winter sports in the French Pyrenees, for example. Loved the video: very comprehensive.

I know, I guess it's a small group that does this. However it's not a very well known connection, this is why I want to inform people about this route.

@@Trainviking Yeah ! It's even cheaper than the plane when the price of flights are expensive due to holidays. Thanks to the youth reduce card from the SNCF company it costs only 45€ to have a bed in the night train.

Just found your channel and watched part 1 and 2 loved it, me and the family are hoping to go to Spain in August cheap flights out but really expensive going back so we are thinking about doing this train from Spain back to England, Well as far as Paris. Its a shame you have to share with strangers having to out up with snoring and all that. If you pay for a berth to sleep in are you allowed to sit in the seating carriage if there is room😁👍

Also about snoring on night trains: If the new trains have power sockets, I will be able to wear a Sleep apnoea mask and allow fellow passengers a restful night.

Thanks again for another great video. I think maybe they should look at offering two berth compartments, that can also be sold for single occupancy. That would maybe make them more of an option for lots of people. Not having a shower would not be so much of an issue if they provided access to one in maybe a lounge at the stations. Also they really should offer the opportunity to buy some food and drink onboard. I would be happy to try it.

Agree, French sleeper trains are different from the European standard. However they are really comfy. Showers are nice, but take a lot of extra space and weight in board of the train. I guess that's fine, however the price in the nightjet for example for those compartments is too low compared to the compartments without shower. On some routes there used to be vending machines, this is something I truly missed as well. Just simple things that should be available. I understand that a.3 coach train might have less then a bigger train though so maybe add this on some routes as a wat in between (I hope sncf is reading this and takes advice).

Leuke video.

I’ve looking at the tickets, it says 1st and 2nd class, and the seating type is couchettes for $50, is it a bed?do I share with others in the 4 or 6 in the same room?
@Trainviking

1st class is a shared couchette indeed. 2nd class is a couchette but can also be the seating car, please pay attention when booking this.
