European Sleeper is to have a dining car from September 1 to November 1 as a pilot project ! There is a press release on their web site. BTW, whenever I hear you voice, my brain immediately recall your pronounciation for Ürümqi during your trip to China some time ago (apparently no longer possible via Kazakhstan).

Did it last september with a group of friends, was an absolute hoot and way more fun than flying, despite costing a lot of money

Great to hear that, and if you take in Account you mulighf save yourself a hotel, it's not that pricy

Would love to take this train, but the prices are completely unbelievable. I understand that running a sleeper train is expensive, which is why it troubles me the EU does not want to provide meaningful subsidization.
@Trainviking8 ай бұрын
Prices are not really low, I fully agree. However you also save yourself a hotel night, If you count everything together it's pretty okay. Also travel and sleep at the same time is pretty time efficient.

It's not THAT bad - we are paying €290 each for individual sleeper compartments in June from Brussels to Prague. We return on day trains via Berlin and Amsterdam, staying two nights in each city, and that is going cost a LOT more. Think of it as a part of the adventure. If you want fast and cheap then fly, if you want fun then catch the train!

Mooie reportage.

Interessant, bedankt! My daughter and I have individual sleeper compartments booked from Brussels to Prague at the beginning of June (2024) - nobody mentioned that there was a connecting door so thank you for that too! You are so lucky to live on the mainland of Europe - we have been cast adrift into the North Sea and have to catch the train from London to Brussels to get to the sleeper train. On our way home we are catching day trains: Prague to Berlin (stop 2 nights); Berlin to Amsterdam (stop 2 nights) and then Amsterdam/Brussels/London in one day and home! Love the way your little train chugs across the map a the beginning - how do you do that? EDIT: just back from visiting your Google Maps page - brilliant!
@Trainviking8 ай бұрын
I guess I'm really lucky to be in mainland Europe and also the country where I'm born in in general, pure luck but very blessed. You only have the connecting doors if your bed numbers are in the same 10 numbers (for example 11 up to 16). Oh the map, yes it's a whole lot of work, but I'm making these video's to help people, therefore I guess this might be a good too. Have fun during the trip and these amazing places, if you're in the Netherlands, personally I'm not a big fan of Amsterdam (love / hate relationship with that city), it's a great city but too crowded and too many tourists of you had enough there, you might consider a (quick) visit in Haarlem, really close to Amsterdam.

I really like how you also give a lot of information around the train, the route etc. Though there is one kinda(?) wrong information here: The European Sleeper is the last train leaving Praha to Berlin, in normal Timetable. This Summer though, and maybe also the following years, ČD runs an additional pair of trains betwenn Berlin-Praha and vice versa. The Train to Berlin leaves around 20ish and arrives half past midnight i think, and the Train to Praha leaves around early Midnight, and arrives at like half past 5. For some Reason it takes an hour longer than the regular services, but no complaints. As long as the Railjet is not reliable enough this is a great alternative.

The sleeping-cars (CIWL type P) looked like this when built in the mid-1950s: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHm2pYCKabCVn9E They had 20 small single-bed compartments in a two-level configuration. In the 1990s 20 of the originally 60 built cars underwent a complete modernization, combining two compartments into one, hence the two windows per compartment. They also received new airconditioning, new bogies ... So the interior is actually from the 1990s. These cars were operated by ÖBB, NS and SNCB, later by EETC, MSM and TRI. The toilets and staff office are very small and the entrance doors are narrow and steep ... but the body is in excellent condition because it is of a very durable stainless steel design patented by Budd (Canadian VIA Rail operates American profile cars of a similar carbody design to this day). The rest of the train is mostly from the 1960s/70s but modernized a few times as well. (Not built in the 1990s as you say, they all received an overhaul though)

@IndianGeek55897 ай бұрын
If they have AC, then why don't they run it?
@uncipaws76437 ай бұрын
@@IndianGeek5589 In that case probably either the airconditioning system is defective or there's no power. Unfortunately trains are sometimes parked without power supply during the day and the aircon takes time to cool them down at the start of the ride.
@IndianGeek55897 ай бұрын
@@uncipaws7643 no i mean there is literally no aircon in the sleeping cars at all during the entire ride. Only the "new" ex-DB couchettes have AC
@uncipaws76437 ай бұрын
@@IndianGeek5589 In this case ask the train staff what's wrong ... and if they can fix it. That's not normal. When these cars still were operated by ÖBB the aircon ran fine as I remember.

Neat video, but I would be grateful if you don't use AI generated content going forward. Given how generative AI makes outputs from content across the internet without the original creators consent, it means that many photographers, artists, people, musicians, and anyone else working in a creative field is having their likeness stolen without consent by the AI companies. It's just really disrespectful to any other fellow creative to use AI and allowing this behavior knowing the circumstances of AI generation.
