SIMONE Williams, from Brooklyn, New York loves her incredible afro - which has a circumference of 4ft 10" - and she has no intention of cutting it anytime soon. Winning a Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Afro in February 2020 was a huge moment for Simone. However in March of 2021, the previous record holder reapplied and won the title back. Simone is still continuing on her hair growing journey and one day hopes to apply for the record and get the title back. Over the years Simone has had a lot of different hairstyles but fell in love with the natural afro look and told Truly that despite her hair’s size it only takes her 10 minutes to get ready in the morning. For Simone her natural hair is massively linked to her self esteem and well being, telling Truly: “I love my afro, it’s a huge part of who I am. It makes me feel strong. It makes me feel empowered. I feel so confident when I have my hair this length.”

I think wigs and relaxing are fine as long as the reasoning isn't a historically bad one. Like not fitting in or wanting to fit societies foolish idea of beauty. I'd never get a relaxar again but sometimes I'm tempted because straight hair seemed easier albeit unhealthy. But wigs, once I have the money I'll be buying at least one. Wigs are great for many reasons. For me I want to color natural hair, but don't want to ruin it again, so a real hair wig can scratch the itch of dying cuz I could dye that.

Me too girly I shop on etsy to buy organic black hair products made by black men and women. I notice a major difference in my hair health after using those products, my hair is now healthy again. Regular store products are geared towards non black hair, and contain alcohol which strips your hair of moisture, we don't have oily hair like other folks we need moisture. Just some food for thought for your journey 🤗

Lol you were literally born with that hair of course it's you girl.

I agree that Black ppl wearing their hair natural shouldnt be seen as an act of rebellion or something to worry about when your friend/family member makes the switch. Unfortunately, there's still many cultures that look down on natural Black hair bc of long, complicated historical reasons (aka r@cism), so it is kind of a big deal for someone to do it, and I give them props for hopefully leading the way towards hair equality (especially in the workplace). Hair is hair and unless there's a hygiene issue causing actual sensory discomfort for others, ppl should mind their business. No hair type or style should be seen as "unprofessional".

@@AlleenLoveHope It's not just racism which contributes to the lack of natural hair styles, culture & sexism play a huge role too. Of course more people in the West don't need to worry about wearing protective styles or keeping it out of the way for physical reasons but the superficial pressure to fit in is huge, especially in the black community. We also tend to be slow to change, like how homophobic a lot of our community still is, that's not caused by racism (although there are contributing factors) we need to help create the positive change ourselves, like this woman, literally be the change & help inspire others.

I would always accept this kind of hair. It's natural and great to love ourselves the way God made us...my hair is naturally fine and straight. I used to get perms and try to curl it. I finally came to be at peace with the real me that God made!

The problem is not if people want to wear it. The problem is how society treats people with natural hair. People have. Been kicked out of school and lost jobs

I was honestly so shocked when I found out that Afro’s aren’t even really that common, considering how beautiful they actually are I seriously think that it’s time for us to normalize this in 2021 because I think they are extremely beautiful. I mean it’s like having a cloud on your head, that’s honestly so cool. I would say I’m jealous but I’ve heard how hard it is to take care of it.

Anyone's hair, especially with thick hair will lock without combing eventually. How fast it will lock depends on the texture. Her hair is beautiful!!!

@spiritualisrael007 2 жыл бұрын
@@sheilaaskew5486 You are exactly right, but with 4c hair texture, the person has to comb their hair around the clock for maintenance.. I would have to comb my hair every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day to have a beautiful afro. It's just so much to deal with.
