A TRANSGENDER WOMAN born with half a body continues to defy her critics by finding love. Piyah Martell was born with a rare congenital birth defect known as sacral agenesis. The 27-year-old uses a skateboard as a mobility aide and spends her time raising awareness of issues around disability in the LGBTQ+ community. Originally born as Pedro, Piyah began her transition to a woman in her late teens, initially facing angry criticism from her father. But Piyah is now in a happy relationship with her partner, Andrew Manuel who says he faces daily judgement around their relationship but that she brightens up every day.

It's sad to think how many people will miss out on knowing some amazing and beautiful souls because they judge them on not what matters. Their character, who they are on the inside. They judge them for the thing they can't control. How they were born. How they look. That is so surface level, I hope if you're reading this you take the time to get to know someone that is different than you and if nothing else appreciate their differences. Because it's okay for people to be different, because in the end we're all human. Different, but the same.

As well as lived with family members with disabilities. My dad was also legally blind, as well as bi polar. I myself am bi polar. Even though I would hope as a decent human even if I hadn't had the experiences I have had I would hope I would still be kind to another human for no other reason than its the right thing to do? You can call me names, or judge me but truth is, you know even less about me than you do this strong woman. Yet you've already judged me because my opinion didn't sit well with you. And that's okay. I have a mate with an eye patch and another with 2 fingers on 1 hand. I dont see these things at all. One was born with it n the other had an accident. I dont understand why people need to tell everyone about their differences. As a mate to people that have these issues I dont see it. So why should others have to point it out? Science and biology literally affirm that gender is not the same concept as sex, those are the real facts, look it up right now and you'll see the truth, not the hateful lies you want to believe. I've watched a few of this series and I am humbled at how these people have so many more challenges than we able bodied people do but just get on with it and accept their lot. How many people do you know who are in perfect health but continually complain or are depressed about something minor? The other thing that I find awesome is the courage that is involved in the relationships - on both sides. Truly Piyah and Andrew are worth ten of me.
