I have a Makaira Gen 3 750 being built for me at the moment. Hopefully get it before Xmas. Allan Shaw has assured me it will be as quiet as a fibreglass boat. I have had two Tristrims so I will be able to compare. My last Extreme 745 GameKing had an 8m hull. It was reasonably quiet. Slept on it a couple of times. The Makaira isn't cheap but it does have a lifetime warranty on the hull for the first owner and then a 10 year warranty for the next owner. I was just looking at a Kingfisher 730 Cat online. Only a three year warranty on the hull.

I put the attribute part of the noise of an alloy boat down to the fact they sit on top of the water like a cork. The heavier fiberglass boat sits in the water, more like a displacement hull.

Yeah definitely. But I must say the 6mm hulls, especially foam filled under floor are very quiet. The 5mm hulls are very noisy.

Great insight... Ive owned Aluminuim boats most of my life with new 21ft Surtees & Senator boats. Prior to these I had a 21ft fibreglass scarab which was so much fun. I’m so used to the cons with these Alu boats that I don’t think twice. snd yes I’ve overnighted in my Surtees GF 650 which was noisy and I couldn’t sleep. Can’t wait to receive my new Haines Signiture 620f. And look forward to the Pros.

I beach launch a lot so it's alloy for me, but yeah many downsides. My Ramco is surprisingly quiet, at rest and underway, not sure why. was even more quiet before I replaced tge timber floor with a fully welded checker plate. Now it's a little drummier but also more rigid and safe.
@BaitBallin

Yeah exactly. I love the toughness of them. Pull up on any beach, don't stress at jetty or launch and retrieve etc. One pissy, tiny nudge on a glass boat and it's gouged for ever. No matter how careful I have been with my previous glass rigs, they always got damaged and it hurt!

Being that I own HT 670 myself, I get what your saying about water noise but not having ever owned a glass boat, I can't really compare the two so it doesn't really bother me. As far as the stability issue when trawling/ traveling, I have the Bar Flap installed on mine and when you lock the water in it makes a big difference, especially in choppy conditions. The boat tends to chop through the water a bit more rather than over it. It really gives the boat a heavy solid feel. Might be worth test driving one with the Bar Flap installed and see what you think. Your welcome to try mine but I'm in Melbourne so don't know. Love your vids by the way. Keep them coming!
@BaitBallin

hey yeah, I had the barflap on my last 670 and tbh I just didn't like it, couldn't get used to the handling.... I mean I do hoenstly like to thrash my boat and launch it off big waves. purely for the fun factor! but yes point taken probably would improve stability under way like that

Another great informative vid. I noticed the water noise on your vids and am wondering if it is a Barcrusher trait. I have an older Quintrex cuddy cabin and it has foam inserts and this keeps it a lot quieter. So are all plate boats noisy? Yellowfin comment they are foam filled and this reduces the noise. Thanks for the other small tips on your Barcrusher and the Stabi. All worthy points to consider. Cheers Graeme

plate boats like extreme and noble boats do have big reverse chines even double on a noble . This gives the boats better lift in the water Dryer ride and stability but it will tend to bang more . The surtees bar crushers have a water ballast system to solve that issue with small reverse chines .this allows the boat to sit lower in the water column wet ride maybe yes but cuts through the water column better with a sharp vee entry to the transom .The Noble is a beast of ride but downfall made in China. Even a edencraft formula 233 don’t have reverse chines very tender off take off but cuts through chop and takes corners really low to the water .Also if you did have a water ballast system which you could activate you might solve that issue .Also most of your shitty plate pressed boats like Mclay quintrex or some plate boats don’t have more than a 15 to 18 degree dead rise .noble has a 24 degree dead rise extreme is 21 degree and surtees are 20 degree stabicraft 20 degree yellowfin 19 degree .edencraft 24 degree deadrise .
@BaitBallin
@BaitBallin 3 жыл бұрын
yeah totally agree with all that! my statements are quite general, absolutely many glass boats are just seriously deep vee and that's about it. went out In an Eden craft once and it was so unstable I literally couldn't stop spewing (it was a rough day), just wouldn't stop rocking. Yep and reverse chine hulls absolutely bang more! BC and Surtees have chosen this formula and it does work very well all things considered.
@jewyhunter_
@jewyhunter_ 3 жыл бұрын
To answer your question on why most plate boats don’t have reverse chines . A lot of plate boats don’t have deadrise . Which means there’s no need for chines. You notice extreme and noble need it for their deep vee due to their deadrise. But I totally agree with the trying to sleep in my boat overnight on the water 😂 that water noise does my head in solve it with ear plugs .

Small chines are nothing to do with it being ally, it's more about the design, same as toe holds on Stabicraft has nothing to do with it being made from ally. Profile boats have them, again it's about design. Foam filling cuts the noise in ally boats greatly too.
@BaitBallin

@BaitBallin
@BaitBallin 3 жыл бұрын
it's their design angle. no chines equals very soft ride through rough chop and soft landigs off waves. chine boats ride noticbly harder. I guess my point overall is no boat isnlitet perfect. it's about ride and handling characteristics each individual wants. Surtees and barcrusher without flare are also amazing boats in a following sea, NO broaching ever just absolute confidence.
