On my slip I regularly get wind across tide and there's always chop which isn't helped by jet skiers doing doughnuts and then there's the slip itself, the part that is underwater is virtually flat as the harbour isn't very deep, spring tide HW not too bad LW springs are a no no mid tides are doable but you will regularly see me winching my boat on to the trailer at 90 degrees to the slip either because that's what way the tide is running or the wind is blowing and man cannot beat mother nature not even on a good day! In spite of all that I'm 59 and I do it myself most of the time mainly because none of my mates no what they're doing lol, oh I winch on by hand because the slip is shallow and aint no way I'm driving a perfectly good vehicle into salt water I'm not into that so I winch it on and then tow the trailer on to the dry part of the slip and then hook her on to the tow bar, easy peesy!

Back as a kid my dad had a Yalta 189 with a 90hp Yamaha. It had 21 degrees of deadrise but ample width compared to a similar Haines or Seafarer. The hull was double inner and out hull moulding so heavy. It was excellent for its size and dad would run a fine pitch prop if we were going outside or a higher pitch for just general running around.

I put the attribute part of the noise of an alloy boat down to the fact they sit on top of the water like a cork. The heavier fiberglass boat sits in the water, more like a displacement hull.

Good to see you out in the water again! Been a while. Mate youre the bar crusher guru so i wanted to ask. Im very close to pulling the trigger on either a 670ht or 730ht. The 730ht is about 30k dearer but the 730ht has a 300hp yamaha and the 670ht has a 200hp yamaha. Im wanting to go offshore solo and sometimes with my misso and 3 kids. Would you pay the extra 30k for a 730ht? Is it worth the extra coin..
@BaitBallinАй бұрын
Yes I would and a 250 works fine on a 730ht. You should also check out the new Yellowfin yf70. Now greatly improved and better layout and options than the 730ht and 6mm hull etc. Barcrusher hasn't done anything for years other than a sticker pack and new colours. They are now a superior boat and I'd have to say the best plate boats in Aus. BC needs to step up their game.
@digger2373Ай бұрын
@@BaitBallin ill do my research on the yf. Im also looking at a 650 surtees gamefisher with a 200 yamaha. Id love a 700 gamefisher but the price goes up like 50k haha Decisions!!
@BaitBallinАй бұрын
Yep don't touch the 650, no way. The 700gf is the ultimate but so so expensive now. So the yf70 YF is my second place boat now, with BC 730ht in third. The BCs are a bit light for their size which impacts their rough water handling compared to Surtees and YF.
@digger2373Ай бұрын
@@BaitBallin you dont reckon the 650gf is a goer? Not even better than the 670BC?
@BaitBallinАй бұрын
No I don't. I think it's over rated and the hard top design is very poor and short. I absolutely would not personally buy one. I'd take a 670ht any day of the week over one. Don't believe all the hype there....

@BaitBallinАй бұрын
Well, what I have learned is that for me boating must be extremely easy....or I simply won't end up going. I've considered: Haines 675 enclosed, Northbank 650 HT, Caribbean 2300, Yaltacraft 2200, Surtees 700GF, Barcrusher 730HT and have decided to not purchase any of those. Will show you guys shortly....
@jb243wpАй бұрын
@BaitBallin Yeah I'm hearing you. It's got to be quick and easy to get out on the water, otherwise youll keep on putting it off. 6.5mtrs I think is good alround size. I think that's what I'll end up with. 6.5mtrs won't have the weight capacity to pound through the head on chop like a 6.8 or 720 but they will get you to the shelf in a little longer time frame. Heads up, doing a bit of research, and I'm finding some of these so-called off-Shore vessels have piss-ant under floor fuel capacity There's a couple of nice secondhand Carribean 2300's on boatsales ATM not badly priced👍 The covid tax is coming down slowly.
@BaitBallinАй бұрын
Yeah agree second hand boats especially are coming down. Yep gotta be easy or it will sit on the trailer and I won't even use it. But decent enough for a day offshore in reasonable comfort.

@BaitBallinАй бұрын
Yeah I haven't noticed it honestly, there was a little bit of chop and swell causing us to bounce around. I think the most impressive aspect is the lack of any sort of jarring impacts and lack of spray coming onto the boat

Thanks for the great no nonsense content. Very informative. Looking at a new Haines Hunter 5.65 offshore for river, bay with family and good weather offshore with mates. Do you rate these Haines Hunter boats and are they truly 5.65metres?! If you store a boat at a pontoon do you think self draining decks are useful in that scenario or you just rely on the bilge pump and regular battery charging?
@BaitBallin2 ай бұрын
From what I understand the 565, 585, 595 are great boats that punch above their weight. regarding storage I have never done anything like that but I imagine you would always want an auto bilge pump regardless

For tuna I prefer the Pakula dojo singles, light gauge, 25 or 30 size. Season depends on exactly where you are. Yellowfin come south, bluefin go north. Season seems to be starting a bit later and ending later. Yellowfin shouldn't be too far away now
