Odysseus's face when Polyphemus was talking about his sheep was literally just "You killed my sheep." "Okay, maybe I can explain this--" "My favorite sheep." "Oh by Zeus, I've doomed us all."

For the survive animatic, the artist drew on the fact that they’re children of Poseidon, giving them horse legs and a crab-like head.

I love Mircsys depiction of Polyphemus, instead of your common cyclops they really blend in the different aspects of Polyphemus lineage. Horse legs and hoofs as a nod to Posidons being the God of horses and his maternal grandfather Phorcys who had crustacean features. His mouth is similar to Charybdis, his half sister as well. A real amalgamation of monsters visually.

I adore wolfy's athena. There are a lot of cool athena designs out there, but I like how specifically "owl-like" her movements are.

A thing many people miss is Polythemus is actually young cyclops. (Both in the original myrlth & with the other cyclops in EPIC having deeper voices). As such, a child cyclops losing his favorite sheep really makes you question who the real villain is in this interaction.

Odysseus basically broke into a kid's house, killed his pet, gave him drugged alcohol that made him pass out, blinded him. Stole the rest of his pet's/farm animals. And then he left while mocking him.

Where are there any references in the original myth that Polyphemus is supposed to be young? All depictions portray him as an old bearded ogre.

@denniszaychik8625 Yes, but if i remember correctly, he is pointed out as being smaller than most cyclops & isn't a blacksmith yet. For all we know, all cyclops are born with beards.

This warrior of the mind animatic has my favorite design for Athena. I especially love that you see tapestries depicting the accomplishments of Odysseus because Athena is also the goddess of weaving/ handicrafts so it would make sense that she'd weave these tapestries to record significant events.

I think each of the EPIC animators provides a different experience. Wolfy does the best with depicting grounded emotion. I think Gigi does the best at capturing a whimsical, mythical vibe and uses fantastic symbolism. Mircsy turns everything up to eleven and gives all the characters a kind of Dark Souls makeover. Lampyrcy goes the complete opposite direction and makes it very cute and shounen anime-esque. And Ximena is like partway between Gigi, Wolfy and Lampyrcy - grounded emotion, true to mythology, but with some cute flavouring. Wolfy is my favourite, personally. I'm surprised you didn't have anything to say about Mircsy equating Polyphemus to the infant. That's probably my favourite moment in that animatic.

I know there was a lot of things I was processing as I was watching these at that time. A couple have mentioned that I may have missed that moment as well. I will definitely go back and watch that.

"I really wish he'd kept the Nobody." The thing is, that was his plan, he was content to just leave with the sheep and stay anonymous. But then Athena showed up and told him to finish the job when he clearly didn't want to. Her interference only added fuel to his grief and anger, so he lashed out, wanting to prove her wrong. In the heat of the moment though, he revealed his true identity, and that show of emotion is why Athena specifically says "you've grown soft, your dead friends can attest", scolding him for something she technically caused.

Remember, not only are Eurilochus (I think I spelled that right) and Polites Oddyseus's right hand men, they are also his best friends which is why they are so prominent (and why Polites' death hurts that much more :')) also would recommend watching Mircsy's Polyphemus animatic 16:39 No reaction to the reference to the infant from the first song at "It's just one life to take" I see 25;28 iirc Mircsy made the cyclops look like that to play a bit more into Poseidon's role as, not only the God of the Sea, but also of Horses and Monsters, with it having hooves and such

I guess the dream and goal for this it so be a stage play, and it would be so amazing to see... But with all these amazing animations, I can't help but hope for an full on animated movie or series as well. It would be so cool, and capture so many emotions that may be hard to convey on a stage.

“My Goodbye” hurt my heart so much. Athena is someone who’s been with him since he was a child. He showed humanity, and, previously, enjoying life instead of being a 24/7 soldier, and that tipped her over. Seeing Odysseus reach out as she vanishes, showing that he really does still care, _oof_ it hurts

I've pointed this out in a few other comment pages, but I find it so interesting and Ironic that Athena is taking the Emotional position in the argument and a lot of My Goodbye while Odysseus is the one pointing out how irrational her tactics are to make herself known, you can't push people away and expect them to care about your opinions, and she as a goddess simple can't connect on that level with people, they she keep repeating how this is her goodbye like she's trying to guilt trip him into begging for her to stay. like "I really mean it Odysseus, if you don't get back to my way of thinking I'm really leaving you." And it's only at the end of the song where he flawlessly points out all her efforts have left her alone that Athena gives the emotional gut punch with the "Just a Man" Motif and then is forced into leaving because they are both too hurt and proud to just admit to their faults.

One advantage of the scarier version of the Cyclops is that it is precisely that: scary! We have seen them depicted in so many different lights, friendly and evil, serious and goofy, that it has lost much of the primal fear the Greeks had when talking about them. That design captures that fear for a modern audience.

Just a quik recommendation, you sgould totally check out Mircy's version of Polyphemus. Just in your own time though, or if you feel like it you could do a reaction to some of the other animatics for songs. But I digress, Mircy's version of Polyphemus is just so good.

I like the way you got so excited cause if the kingdom hearts reference 😂 Because of your reaction, I newly noticed in the Ocean saga, that Athena (her piano) is playing when Posidon is telling Odysseus he should have killed his son, (the cyclops) almost as if she is saying I told you so.😅 You know you messed up if Athena and Posidon agree😂

I've already recorded everything from Troy to Underworld, and if I don't get everyone's favorites, I am collecting them and putting them in a list of animatics to react to! So far the only one that is 100% certain to be in that video is Anniflamma's Ruthlessness, I've been recommended that so many times I can't just not react to it at this point!

The animatic that depicts the cyclops Kinda like a demon does so bevouse he is the son of the god of the ocean (so it has oceanic like atributes) and horses (thats why it has hooves) it's a depiction of a mix of what Poseidon is god of

19:00 The cyclops looks this way because his father is Poseidon, god of the sea and horses, so his lower half is horselike while his upper half is similar to a crab or sea creature, and is also humanoid like his father.

I always sorta took it as the sheep as a whole were his favorite thing moreso than any specific sheep being his favorite? Edit/add: As a parent I can understand that hurt pause, put on patience face, "One day you'll understand..." all to well.

Genuinely i think the subdued framing of Wolfy's My Goodbye animatic make it one of my favorites. I love that it's just Ody and Athena in a blank space and it's their body language/expressions augmenting the emotions in the music
