MVP of this fight was Eddie's corner. Mike broke Eddie's orbital bone and their corner didn't hesitate to save their fighter rather than push him back into it. We all love the warriors that will fight until they die but no sport is worth losing your eyesight (or possible life) over. Too bad for Eddie too because he was closing up Mike's right eye too. That fight was pretty even going into the third.

I think Alvarez thoroughly dominated RD 1, and I thought he had round 2 won as well. I'm not sure how things would have gone in the next 3 Rd's, but it sucks that we'll never find out. Eddie has had numerous surgeries to his orbital/cheekbone, so he's more susceptible to new breaks/fractures/ even just eye swelling in fights. I think the biggest factor in this fight was the weight difference, where Alvarez, who was in the 155 lb weight class in UFC, fought at the heaviest he's been for a fight in about 10-15 years 174 and Perry, has been accustomed to fighting at 186 lbs since he began BKFC. 10 lbs may not seem like a huge advantage, but when the lighter guy bulks up to get to 175, and the other is accustomed to 185, it's a very big deal particularly when it comes to power punches. Alvarez likely would have at minimum knocked Perry down(if not out) with that right cross if he were at 185. On the flip side, Alvarez may not have had the quickness he displayed has he been 185. Bottom line it was a great, extremely exciting, 2 rounds, would have loved to see a better ending than a corner stoppage-it was the right thing to do*, but from a fans perspective, you want the finish to be in the ring.

That hit Perry takes @50 seconds takes me right back to my first good difficult sparring session, I was 19 and my first few spars were against kids, like 14-15 just to get me ready and make sure I could defend myself. After that they threw me in against the youth programs best, another guy (17 or 18). I took my first good square punch to the face. The grimace Perry makes after getting hit is exactly how it made me feel, that adrenaline is scary man, but so exciting. Some of my favorite moments from spars have been getting hit, feeling that rush, and plowing right forward
