I was so excited when I saw the thumbnail for this video because this is one of my favourite cars! I found one of these many years ago in a Salvation army store but the hood was missing. My 68 tbird came factory with the vinyl top. You did it right by not painting the front pillars as they never had vinyl on them. I restored a few dozen of my old matchbox cars as well as painted and detailed the interiors and engines of they came with an open hood. I used them for my xmas town model. I can send some pictures so you can see the absolute detail on the cars and town.

Zinc plating? I'll recommend going the acidic pathway. Anhydrous zinc chloride, boric acid and potassium chloride maybe. Or you go the alkaline route which works way better but involves creating zinc-cyanide complexes. I personally wouldn't go that route, i'm a chemist myself and i wouldn't deal with cyanide in a non-lab environment. P.S. i'm lucky being born with the ability to smell hydrogen cyanide, so i wouldn't need a detector :)

Have you tried dipping the windshield pieces in Future Floor Wax (aka Pledge with Future Shine) after you clean and polish? You just need to pour some in a small container, dip the part totally, then pull it out, letting it rest to dry on a paper towel. If you mess up, it comes off with ammonia. It really helps hide blemishes in the clear plastic. Airplane modelers do this. Glad I stumbled on your stuff - nice work!

@captaincoyote17926 жыл бұрын
Wow! When you first mentioned orange, I thought like my teenage daughter and mentally went “eew!” However, once complete, in orange, that T-bird was sharp! I was somewhat confused with your discussion on wheels (original versus reproductions), as I thought they were all “reproductions”.....so I will do some research. Anyway, once again, even with the metal discoloration that you pointed out, I found it yet another beautifully-completed model!

That orange turned out really nice on the trunk! For the vinyl roof you should use a semigloss black instead, the black you used would look great on a realistic custom car but since yours in good old Hot Wheels it will look better with the same/similar semigloss black that was previously on it.

Use 3M tape. Green or yellow are the best. When you remove the tape, pull it back against itself slowly instead of pulling it off at a 90 degree angle. This helps tremendously in preventing the paint from peeling off. Pulling it off right after the final coat also helps from getting a sharp edge, as it allows the paint to slightly roll past the tape line. I do this all the time when I two-tone cars in my body shop... Great video again!

Hey, just curious, would you take a request involving a Matchbox Crown Victoria? Because I have a metal/metal model, it used to be black at some point but most of the paint is gone and there is some dirt in the interior. The idea just popped into my head and I thought it sounded like an interesting idea if you'd be on board with it. If not that's fine, just thought I'd suggest it.

I have a question, Looking again through my hot wheels (some were once my dad's) I found a Heavyweight Ambulance in spectraflame green, it is missing a good chunk of paint(mostly on all of the edges), the body and base have some corrosion, the axles are bent, its missing the back plastic bit, and the windshield has a crack on it, after looking online I saw a couple of them in semi used condition ( just some wear on the paint) going for some decent prices. I was wondering, how hard would it be to restore, and how much would it go for if it was restored? Also would you mind if I emailed a pic so you could see it with your own eyes?
