That cut out ending kills my heart. What a soulful and passionate performance though. Lovely.

Daniel Barenboim- has studied Beethoven and knew the entire 32 from the age of 12- this is a pretty phenomenal feat. What I like about his playing is that every pause is thought through.

Of course there are people who have the ability to play all of Beethoven's sonatas at that age. The composer Camille Saint-Saens was reported of giving a concert at the age of ten where he played Mozart's piano concerto no. 15 in addition to other various pieces by composers such as Handel, Hummel, and Bach, and as an encore, he offered to play any of Beethoven's piano sonatas from memory. People at that age may not be able to play the sonatas masterfully, but they can still play them.

@esembesem it's well known among classical fans, but outside of that group there's probably not many people familiar with beethoven's late work besides the 9th symphony

opuses 106 - 111 piano sonatas are the hierarchy to all what is written before or after for piano regardless who BY WHICH composer,. and since here being the master Daniel Barenboim the pianist with his in depth knowledge and love to Beethoven;, MAYBE he can be matched but never topped.... and to understand the thought through mediam you need to watch \Barenboim with pianists playing Beethoven in his \mater classes to understand why \ Beethoven,is \ Beethoven regardless of age

Apparently I was told that he also had the Beethoven concerti and Brahms concerti very early into his teens, Mind you he has since recorded the sonatas 4 times , I think very much like Brendl

I'm working on this sonata and it's wonderful to hear this performance - so straightforward and beautiful - this is really good! (Where did the last chords go?) Thank you!

Does anyone know how the piano was tuned? It doesn't sound like equal temperament to me.

I highly doubt he could play all the 32 when he was twelve. No one can play the last 5 with the musical maturity (ignoring the incredible technical demands) at that age. Despite that,he is still a fantastic pianist. Anyone who can play all the 32 sonatas deserves an olympic medal.

Nobody said he could play them well at 12. Playing the notes is only a fraction of piano, I know, but it’s still a feat he could by 12

Brilliant playing, just one small problem: the ending is cut off. Kinda sucks.
