Though I’m late to the response, one of the reasons PDX amps have so many output MOSFET’s on the output side is because of it being a higher voltage amp. Along with it being a 2ohm load amplifier minimum as well as other things they chose to use in the output section. When these amps came out, people were 1ohm running them, not realizing they were 2ohm load amps, having to run their subs at 4ohm because of their sub configuration clipping the amp heavy like Sam mentioned. Was an overlooked thing by most and it was mostly by second hand owners without knowledge of these amps.

MISSING 10R RESISTOR: At time 1:26:31 and 2:26:47 it appears that you are still missing a 10R resistor on the left side of the big black diode that's above the IRS20957S top of board in video. If that spot is not suppose to be populated then just ignore my comment. Not a subscriber but I have watched all your videos, learned a lot, repaired a few amps. You do good work. Thanks for the channel/videos. Florida USA.

Hey just a question how do you isolate the parts on the board and test them without removing the part I can see directional diodes of coarse including rectifiers but like capacitors and without reading another part of a circuit. In my work as a underground coal mine electrician the capacitor would be in hooked then read or of coarse unless they are swollen. Lol

Hi Barevides, writting from Croatia, Europe... i have FUSION SG-DA51600 5 Channel marine amplifier, and from some reason, dual mosfets (IRFI4019H), 12 of them, are getting very hot, and after a few minutes in operation, the amp gets into protection mode. Can you assume what can that be. Until protection mode, the amp is working with no problems.

I made a power supply using a mig welder transformer a few diodes built a regulator board using mosfets very grunty and never gets hot.

ROCKFORD FOSGATE PRIME/PUNCH/POWER Spend the money and get years of reliable clean power.
@steventompkins81644 жыл бұрын
I have the soundstream tarantula tn1.1200d and I think I purchased it for 139.00 and it does well over its rated power and seems to be a very good solid amp. So to add to the question I asked you before about what is a good amp the does it’s rated power that don’t hurt the wallet and you said pioneer punch prime but does other amp manufacturers use the same boards as pioneer? I know you said jl audio designs and builds there own boards. So what other cheaper brands of amplifiers that use the same boards as rockford fosgate?

The transformers are in series on the output side. And in parallel on the 12v side. hence the 4 rectifiers. 1 Positive and 1 neg per side, per rail. on the soundigital.
@barevids4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean in series on the output side, there are no transformers on the output, only inductors, one per "channel" that are in permanent bridgemode

As an engineer that designs SMPS and class-d (for fun), I like your enthusiasm! but your understanding of hard and soft switching isn't correct. if you lower the gate resistor the miller charge is faster this increase the slew rate of switching node forcing stress in the switches and limiting their life cause the snubbers will dissipate more energy, this will raise EMI and more EMI more the circuit is subjected to high frequency shot through (and random failure and yes the FETS will run cooler but this is deceptive), the gate resistor is used to tame switching for a balance of EMI vs long term use, your modifications requires circuit analysis and worse case calculations not glazing over things and making assumptions.
@yaghiyahbrenner89024 жыл бұрын
The other explanation is programble planned obsolescence if the rg is to high the runs in its linear region and not saturated reducing its life deliberately.
@barevids4 жыл бұрын
Right okay! Thank you for the information buddy! Good to have some insight from someone who actually works in the field. I was always led to understand that the kind of really weak, slopey drive wave on the gate as a result of these 270rg would hinder the fets ability to produce as much current as if they were turned on more quickly, since datasheets suggest that RDS becomes lower as voltage on the gate increases. So having the full 12v on the gate for a longer duration will mean the fet is presenting a lower resistance to the circuit for the duration that it is switched on, as opposed to only for the last quarter of its on-cycle, since for over half of its on time the gate voltage is considerably lower with the higher value resistors.

@@barevids ALWAYS REMEBER THIS: -- hard switching * Hard switching occurs when there is an overlap between voltage and current when switching the transistor on and off. * This overlap causes energy losses which can be minimized by increasing the di/dt and dv/dt. * However, fast changing di/dt or dv/dt causes EMI to be generated. Therefore the di/dt and dv/dt should be optimized to avoid EMI issues. -- soft switching * Soft switching begins one electrical parameter to zero (current or voltage) before the switch is turned on or off. This has benefits in terms of losses. * The smooth switching waveforms also minimize EMI.
