Dude...I see why you've learned alot in a year. Seems like you do alot of repairs. Gotta give you credit! 🖒 I've repaired quite a few amps over the years but not on a consistent basis like you. I used to be intimidated by class D amps until I repaired my first one. Actually...it was the easiest repair ever. Just some broken legs on the power supply FETs. LOL! But anyways...keep up the work.

Thank you VERY much for these videos. I would LOVE to have you as a resource to ask questions, and even PAY for your help; I'd pay as much as you charge in labor to fix them yourself, likely more. I have maybe 10 amps I want to fix and a number of them are the Phoenix Gold Xenon amps which are complicated. I graduated as an Electronic engineer many years ago but never worked in the field, so have a little knowledge and I have been trying to learn repairing amps for many months with little progress - your videos helped immensely. Some questions I have after watching your videos: 1: Where do you find schematics and service manuals? 2: How do you know if an amp is self-oscillating? 3: If it is self-oscillating, how do you know what to do to force it to oscillate? Example: In your video about a Phoenix Gold amp you had to short several pins to make it oscillate; how did you know what to do for that? 4: If you have an amp where none of the Power supply FETs nor any of the Outputs are visibly bad, and none test bad, what are the top things you look for? 5: When replacing FETs, you mentioned how you may need to adjust the Gate Resistors. Can you explain more clearly exactly how you calculate the adjusted resistor values? 6: If you have a Class AB amp without any service manual, how do you know how to properly adjust the BIAS? I will send you a connection request on LinkedIn so we can communicate if you are interested. Thank you! Travis

I know this vid is old, but, I have a question. My Hifonics Brutus BRX 640.4 is throwing fits. Plenty of voltage, no overheating, in fact bone cold compared to how warm it usually runs. you turn it up and it just gets sloppy, all the lights on it browning out to the bass notes. All 4 channels bridged into a dual vc sub, matching gains so no issues there. Worked fine for a few months, all the sudden started doing this. Doesn't want to turn off or go into protect though. Thoughts?

@barevids6 жыл бұрын
reverse polarity protection diode. most amps have these and they will sacrifice themselves to protect the rest of the amp. If they did its job the amp should just work fine, may need to cut the diodes out. If the amp still got damaged, then you may have a whole host of things which need replacing.

Dont you know electronics? Use strong diode to isolate super-capacitors from the power supply-then they will charge automaticly when you switch the supply on and would not discharge when its off.Anyway nice vid man..
@barevids7 жыл бұрын
No. There are no diodes available anywhere that have a low enough forward resistance to be "invisible" to the circuit when high current is drawn. At this level, every 0.01ohm makes a difference to voltage drop. A physical breaker is needed.
@BenjaminEsposti7 жыл бұрын
Only an active diode would do - that is, a "diode" made with a few MOSFETs (in back-to-back configuration, because they have an anti-paralleled diode junction inside which is inherent to the design of the MOSFET itself) and a control chip. Also, super capacitors require current limiting when charging up, because they can draw hundreds of amps! You could in fact probably make your own switch with some MOSFETs and a proper driver, but if you parallel FETs you have to be really careful in your choice of parts and physical design because FETs don't share current very well. (I.E. They have a negative temperature coefficient. So when their temperature goes up, the resistance goes down, and this means more current will flow, which will create more heat ... until it gets hot enough to smoke! XD)
