I own six of the watches on the list, and I’m a semi-retiree in my ‘60s with Rolex, Omega, Breitling, etc., in my modest sized collection. I enjoy my Duro, Seiko 5, CasiOak, Orient, as much as my more expensive watches. These are good watches for anyone, not just students and young professionals.

@@JenniElle what's your opinion on buying a fake replica of an Omega Seamaster if I don't afford it and I'm honest about the fact that I bought a fake when they ask me? I would really love to hear your opinion and maybe a video on this? 🤔

@@aaronabelachelseafccan’t see Jennie doing a video on this topic, as it goes against the grain with fake watches really impacting on us watch collectors from all groups. Orient, to seiko and rolex/omega. Because fakes are getting good, but it wouldn’t sit well with me supporting this trade as I heard of many unfortunate individuals getting scorched as a result of purchasing what they thought was genuine. But in all honesty, wear what you’re happy with.

I tried to get into watches over 10 years ago when I was a teen. I just couldn’t get into it because my wrist was too small. Now that I’m almost 30, I bought my self an Apple Watch to get healthier and that re-opened the watch experience for me. Because of the Apple Watch now I have the orient bambino, the duro, the PRX, G shock and the citizen Tsuyosa

My favorite watch brands are Orient, Citizen, and Casio. I also own Seiko, Glycine, Tissot, Bulova, Islander, and some of the infamous Asian homage brands. But unless I'm wearing a purpose-built athletics watch, you'll almost always find one of my three favorite brands on my wrist. For my 65th birthday (in 14 months), I'm planning to buy myself the most expensive watch I have ever owned, most likely a 41mm blue dial Longines Conquest Quartz. Yes, Quartz. As much I like automatics, I find a quartz watch is a better "everyday" watch for me. I often go two or three days without wearing a "nice" watch, and being able to pick up my favorite and not have to set it is key. And the price is easier to justify. Assuming nothing I like better in the price range is released, when I hit seventy I'll buy a Tudor Ranger, and when I reach eighty an Omega Seamaster Railmaster. When I reach ninety...well, who knows what will be available in 26 years. I'll probably still wear the Conquest most days.

What an interesting video. I am almost at retirement age, and I still wear the same watch everyday for the past 48 years (my 8th grade graduation gift): a December 1975 Seiko Pogue. It is still all original and running +/- 2-4 seconds a day after its last service 8 months ago (video at the KZbin channel: Blair Watch Project). I have other watches, but this Seiko always finds its way back onto my wrist.

Unless you are very keen and set on having the Seiko logo on your dial, the Islander ISL-02 (and its colour variants) is a better alternative to the Seiko 5 line up. You get a better bracelet, screw-down crown, 200m water resist, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, and the same 4R/NH36 movement. Plus it is actually cheaper than Seiko's $350 USD pricetag at $299, and that will go down with sales and coupons. It's been my go-to watch for casual wear and field work for some time now. Was hoping to see it mentioned here!

Isn’t this the same argument some folks make about homage brands like San Martin, Pagani, and Seestern? That for the money they offer better specs than big brands like Seiko, Or Citizen? And it’s actually fine to start off with these knockoffs. Especially if your intention is to move on in a year or two. I still prefer Seiko to Islander, San Martin or Pagani. And if you really don’t like the hardlex crystal or so so bracelet, there is an easy upgrade path.

One understated thing about the Orient Kamasu (And the Ray and the Mako) are that they cases are still reasonably sized compared to other dive watches, not too tall, not too wide, decent lug-to-lug. And they are highly mod-able, a lot of people swap out the crystals on the Ray and Mako, which brings you 90% the way there to the Kamasu. I personalty prefer the newer Kamasu II with the round indices and sun-burst dial... it's a bit understated but nice proportions. This is one of the things that I don't like about the current Seamaster Pro... it's just a big too big in every dimension. Not enough to stop a lot of people, but I feel like the SMP doesn't give a lot of people "perfect joy" because it's at the size where you make a lot of people have a small doubt as to whether or not it's too big for them. You see "Is this watch too big for me" frequently asked on Reddit.

Jenni, interesting choices, and so well done reviewing 21 watches in 15 minutes! I am so frustrated with waiting for a Rolex GMT that I am researching Seiko & Citizen GMT's. I wanted to ask if you can do a video on a head-to-head competition of the Seiko Sports 5 GMT for $475 versus the Citizen Series 8 GMT for $1,675. I cannot figure out if the Citizen GMT is three times better then the Seiko, and you have a unique perspective in your reviews. Both watches are automatic. To make the comparison more interesting, maybe add the Rolex GMT in steel as the grail GMT to own to see if Seiko & Citizen GMT's can compete. Sind sie bereit, diese art von video zu machen, um mir bei der kaufentscheidung zu helfen?

Glad to see that the Baby Alpinist made the list. Definitely one of my favorites to wear. However, in professional use I typically wear the Omega Seamaster Pro, not because I'm a diver but because the METAS movement allows me to wear it in the high magnetic field I work in when I'm servicing MRI machines and its durability means I have little concern about it contacting super cold helium gas when handling cryogens and other such odd hazards of the job. The other watch I wear while working is a Casio Royal that I've modified with a CuSn8 bronze case and sapphire crystal. Being wholly digital it stands up to the magnetic fields just fine, and while the mod made it heavier it definitely looks more interesting and sparks some questions. It's also handy when I travel to different states and time zones to quickly adjust the time I'm in.

My local watch shop told me Seiko 5 (mechanical) is basically a throw away watch. Wear it for 5-7 years and toss it. Is that about right?

Well, I think San Martin and Cronos are the best bargain watches that show you're an enthusiast and a connaisseur. In most cases you can grab them for less than 200 dollars

Only own one of these watches as I'm always able to find something that made me not to buy. The Murph with poor AR crystal, PRX having poor movement, Duro with too long lug to lug measurement (for me), also Nomos and Mido, etc. The one that I'm still considering is The Murph, hoping that I maybe can accept the reflective crystal.

which is better? a quartz prx or a powermatic one?
@luchorocko

It all depends on your taste? Some people prefer automatic on their watches but the maintenance can be pricy. Meanwhile the quartz version is cheaper, you won’t be able to see the complications on the back but it’s reliable and the cost of maintenance is cheaper. I currently have a PRX quartz and it gets the same wrist time as my Tudor BB36 automatic.

I would say quartz. As far as I can tell, the Powermatic 80 is not easily serviceable. That is the whole point of buying mechanical movements.

I own both but if your interested in accuracy. Then quartz is the best I own a few vintage Heuer quartz pieces Heuer Coral 980 026, Heuer 981.006, Tag Heuer Night diver 989 113 and the Heuer 272.006 with the ESA 536.121, ETA 955.112 and the 185 super quartz movement's and love them. All have been serviced and function flawlessly

I was originally going to buy one of the cheap Tiso PRX, but unfortunately, I found out that it contains plastic materials within the watch. That was a turn off.

I'd disagree with the smart watch. Just get a Garmin, have a month of battery life, and actually have a good sports watch ecosystem (Connect and Strava). But, my Duro has been through the paces and it's still going strong. A good nato strap and that thing hums!

I ordered the Casio diver but sent it back. The finish and materials are really good, especially for the prize, also the bezel action! But it was too big and heavy for me and I didn‘t become a fan of the design.

slight mistake in the Longines Hydroconquest-segment: You mention the "new" Hydroconquest with the ceramic bezel and show it in the pictures, but then mention the price for the old variant for ~$1300. The new version, that is shown in the video, costs around $1900. Was a bit irritating as the mentioned price seems like a voiceover during editing.
