You need to start the saw to set the m tronic on choke warm up position for at least 30 seconds, then run it full throttle until the motor spudders down, turn it off, the m tronic is set. The Bark Box should help the 400 out in torque in deep cuts I notice on my 400c. The 400 is a hyper active rpm saw, but sometimes in bigger wood it just stops dead and loses power easy, but the Bark Box should help keep the torgue curve in the cut and powers thru the sticking point in the wood.

@duanefryberger2007 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure people know that if you change mufflers or a big change in altitude and the saw is running rough time to time, you have to recalibrate the m tronic system. It has been a while when I did mine, but when the saw is cold, leave it on the bottom burp position with the chain break on for over 30 seconds when it starts, take the chain break off, then just give it full throttle gas, the saw will run funky for a few seconds then it will whine out until it spudders, turn it off, that is how the m tronic recalibrates its self, if you don't hear the spudders at the end of the sequence, the saw didn't recalibrate. I think because the saw is running cooler with the different air gas mixture the saw has to be completely recalibrated to program to run efficiently, you notice a monster difference in your saw. Sorry, I am just trying to help out anybody has the third generation m tronic on their stihl saws and if your saw is running funky you might have to reprogram the m tronic system, thanks take care...@@oakeymt.outdoors

A sharp chain will take care of all that,any saw would get stuck on big timber if one only throws sawdust n overworking the saw ! I'll cut 20inch hard logs with a 251c Stihl 😊 factory standard, no porting B S !!!
@ciphercode22985 ай бұрын
@@gunterbecker8528yes,sharp chains do wonders,but so do ported mufflers. They're just $75 and do help with torque,horsepower and heat dispersal. I've got a stock ms250 that I love,its a great little saw,but if I'm bucking up 20"+ oak I'd rather reach for a bigger more capable saw. My ms250 can and has done it,but it can be done more efficiently with an ms400,with a bark box😊

The bark box messes up the design of the oem expansion chamber by basically cutting it in half, and w a flat side opposite the cylinder. Ruining its volumetric efficiency. Imo.

@@ciphercode2298 You probably think louder means more performance. Do you understand how 2 stroke engines work? Do you see comp saws with Bark boxes or dirt bike expansion chambers? lmao

@@ciphercode2298 If their design actually improved performance they would have documentation or something to prove that.
@ciphercode22985 ай бұрын
@@Jaun2Three there are numerous videos showing dynamometer results confirming the difference. Theres also cut time comparisons videos. The cooling effect it has on the engine alone is enough reason to do it. Heat is the killer of little 2 stroke engines. As to whether or not it messes up its volumetric efficiency, I'd say it seems to work just fine and has no detrimental effects on its performance or economy.
@Jaun2Three5 ай бұрын
@ciphercode2298 Hey, I bought one, It's a solid piece and looks good. But you can't compare the bb and a stock muffler w the screen out, or screen out and a drill hole. If you open the stock muffler cutting all the spark arrester mount out and smooth the inside all out. And you open it up to the same dimension as the bb exit. Then it'd be a fair comparison and you'd see the extra volume in the oem muffler compared to the design of the bb that puts a flat face instead of everything rounded.

Stihl and other manufacturers have decreased the outlets on mufflers and have added baffles to satisfy government standards over the years. It restricts airflow and decreases power and efficiency. It also holds in alot of heat. Bark boxes are made by a reputable company on America's west coast out of heavier gauge stainless steel than what comes from stihl. They provide better airflow,increases in power and efficiency, and reduce heat in the engine. It's not some homemade crap,as you so ignorantly put it,but you're welcome to your opinion, I guess.
