Surprised the knives with the larger heat treat companies didn’t do better. Don’t know if BR does cryo or not or even who does their heat treat but I do know Peter’s did a cryo treatment on the master woodsman and the RC was tested at 60 - 62 by them. I have been doing all heat treat in house for the past four months because of better results in my usage and as you just demonstrated. Very clear that all blades are not equal even though they are the same steel. Heat treat controls do make a difference.

That AEB-L is performing great! Thanks a lot for the testing. That’s awesome. Can’t wait for mine to get here

My self-made 1084 knife did as well as my Bark River Kephart 3v on feather sticking, notch making and light chopping. Both of them still shaved and cut paper when I was done. A lot of it has to do with edge geometry and proper heat treatment for a particular steel. You don't need to spend 300 bucks for a good knife.

That's a pretty interesting result. Another factor that will affect the edge retention is edge geometry. I have two Nordmith knives in AEB-L that I am VERY happy with. I'm really hoping that William will try a larger, harder use blade in that steel. I'll be quite curious to see how it holds up. I can say this, my WCSK in O1 with Williams heat treat is a damn beast. It's tough and holds an edge better than any O1 knife that I own.

Thank you for watching my honor really . We have a large blade in AEB-L on the way for testing.

I was also lucky enough to get one of Williams sportsman blades the same as the one you tested and it's getting a custom sheath before it gets delivered, i do have AEB-L steel blades and i also recommend them over my 3V 😉

He is not a common man. Mr. Willian is genius I believe. Bark River products have something lovely and special in common. They are well finished. I cannot explain what I mean. But I know Bark River version of William Collins knives can move blades world to another level.

Please don't think I'm trolling, you should've used a bicycle tube to test them as it is more consistent in size as your tubes were different widths and you weren't consistent with your method to bring the blades back to life, you used different amounts of strokes on the rod. I do agree that Williams steel after his heat treat is far superior than others as i have brought 7 knives off William and give them as presents because i want my friends to have the best, thanks for a great video.

You want to know what is hilarious about this entire video? You specifically stated that W.C.'s knives are heat treated by Peter's well who the hell do you think does Bark Rivers heat treatments??? Yes the use Peter's as well so you basically tested the same steel heat treated by the same company the only differences in performance would be the edge geometry and the targeted HRC if they're requested differently by each knife maker but the odds are that they're very reasonably close in hardness so the only thing different is the knife designs and edge geometry brother!

You should have killed the edge from the last knife ... using a virgin edge when all the others got stropped is uneven
