Bark River Classic Drop Point Hunter Knife preview

Fox River is a very useful tool knife. Classic Drop Point Hunter will be a very enjoyable hunting knife. I believe its handle ergonomics and its edge line to the blade length is excellent for field deer dressing. I cannot wait to put it in use too. Thanks.

The mailman just delivered mine. Its beautiful...cocobolo scales, perfect weight and very good balance. I think I'm gonna be very happy this deer season. Only problem is going to be deciding which to use...Drop Point Hunter, Fox River or Canaian Special. Wish all my problems were this sweet.

I am a true Japanese. But I love Bark River knives most. They are by far more affordable than the similar Japanese knives because they are all custom ones. Thanks.

Wako, you just pushed me over the edge. I have considered buying this knife for a few weeks now. Once I saw your review, I had to pull the trigger. I bought a Cocobolo from CRT for $188. Great price!!! Thanks for the timely review.

Only other feature I would have liked to see would be a tapered tang.

I think the CDPH is a genuine hunting knife. Its handle is thin in width and thick in height, and not stable in fist holding for bushcrafting but very stable in side holding for game dressing. Its acute belly would not be useful for bushcrafting or food prep but useful for game dressing. Gunny's edge line and handle design is the general purpose one from Bark River IMO. Thanks.

I don't need and I don't like the gut hook because I don't open the belly during dressing a deer in the field. I like drop point because it's faster to get any muscles. I don't like up swept skinning type blade too because I skin a deer little to get any muscles. So my preference is drop point without a gut hook. Thanks.

Right now I’m in bed with my BRKT CDPH. 3V, Desert Ironwood Burl, Red liners. What a beauty. But the sheath is awful. Belt stitches are toward the side and visible. And generally not a beautiful sheath. I love the knife though. Nothing in this world prettier than this.

Which do you like the best for deer.., Classic Drop point, or Gunny?

Classic Drop Point for a small to medium deer, and Fox River for a medium to large deer. Gunny doesn't choose the deer size but is not as perfect as CDPH or Fox River. CDPH and Fox River bend all the way from the butt to the tip for progressive cutting, but Gunny doesn't. Thanks.

+rob Kuilder For hunting use I love Elmax > A2 > 3V. I expect 3V impact resistance. I expect Elmax super durability through bone contacting. I expect A2 regular toughness and easy sharpening. I would recommend you A2 over 3V for hunting. Thanks.
