Best damn Bark River Knives salesman on the internet! So far I have 3 Bark River knives. I don't intend on buying the same model knives, but I find myself looking at different handle versions for some reason

Beautiful knives! Though I am not a hunter, I have a great appreciation for each style of knife reviewed in this video: Bravo 1, Gunny, Fox River. Bark River hunting knives are among my favourite which I consider to be art pieces.

Yes. They were all in A2. I left many of them for selling or trading. I still have Fox River in B & W Ebony, Bocote, Gunny in Orange G10, and Bravo1 in Aged Bamboo. And sice then I have added many of new handles and steels. But I already left 3V Bravo1 and 3V Fox River. I didn' like the fat geometry of 3V Bravo1 and the thinner and longer hangle and the deep micro bevel of 3V FR. I like a sharp knife very much. 3V seems to need a larger angle not to chip. It's a high wear resistant hard steel.

Hope your knee will recover as soon possible (i got a similar injury 21 years ago but worse than your and didn' t recovered 100%, i didn' t know how to fix it; is not your case...). Take care P.S. the PD 30 (31-32) are my favorite edc but give an eye out for: ARMYTEK Predator 5 degree reflector...

@SamEEE12 But there is a small gap filled with epoxy between the liners and the stock on this Gunny. The liners are sometimes like that. TKC has Lignum Vitae Gunny SS without liners for a discount price. Thank you!

@mujarik It is the KSF(KnivesShipFree) Forest Sheath. It fits Gunny, FallknivenF1, or Fox River very well. The KnivesShipFree makes a special Forest sheath for the F1. I guess it is for the thicker custom wood handles. If you need the one, you had better ask them. Thanks.

Lingue vitae is great handle material, better than ebony (no so strong) and similar to grenadill and desert iron wood. I had custom Cold Steel SRK carbon V with lingue vitae wood handle - amazing durability. You have great BRKT knives - I like BRKT knives, but here in Bulgaria there is no seller, so we buy from USA - too exepensiv for my student budjet :S Thank you!

@Slogger4z Fortunately Bark River has a very good resale value in Japan as well as Fallkniven, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Emerson. So I can change the handle relatively easily to the other which I like at some web shops in the US. Thank you!

The cost of shipping to America for a knife, not at all for a knife is by no means negligible. The ebony did not crack due to the winter but due to the overheating of the sandpaper in the process of shaping the handle, those who make knives know very well what I mean. Also the wood was cut sideways without any curvature like the other foxes. The word anatomy is completely absent from the Fox river handle, except that the front is too thin for most hands. So by what criteria do you rate it as the best knife?
@MrHardPressed
@MrHardPressed 12 жыл бұрын
you can heat up the kydex and bend the opening slightly so that the knife will slide in and yet not change the form of the shape which grasps the knife. Kydex is very workable! just heat it up

Great video and a lot of money on that table for sure. I found your video, because I am actually looking for a hunting knife from Bark River. Which handle material do you prefer for doing "red" work, when your hands get wet?
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 13 жыл бұрын
@ScottsUtubeWorld I use "Tsubaki knife oil". Tsubaki is camellia in Japanese. You can google it out. The oil comprises vegetable and mineral oils. In my experience it doesn't add wrong smell or taste to food. It is specially made for knife care. So I don't think it will harm a knife. Thanks.

@ridnovir I like wood handles for Bark Rivers just because they have natural beauty. Wood tend to swell taking moisture and can make a tiny step up from a tang. That swelling can lessen the adhesion of scales. MIcarta will never make it and better as a practical material. G10 is heavy but Micarta is light as wood. Liners can thicken the handle in case. But generally Bark River handle makers seem to reduce scale thickness for liners and make the same thick handle as no liner ones. Thanks.

Based on this video I bought my first BKNT Fox River knife and I love it. I got mine in black and red linen micarta. Why do you prefer wood over micarta? Also are the handles with liners thicker than the ones that do not have them?

@virtuovice
@virtuovice 13 жыл бұрын
@Fadeplay2 No. I don't recommend you to grind off the slippery finish. It makes the tang and pins dirty and you might get not to love it. Recently BRKT makes matte finish handles and I once had the one myself which was not very admirable with scratches on metal portions. I think you just don't used to that slippery handle. Its shape itself has enough traction IMO. I left all of my synthetic BR knives and my handles are all wood now though. 3G sometimes took micro chips more than A2. Thanks.

Doc . . . This was a very interesting and informative video. With a date of 2011 it is interesting to see how your opinions change over the years. All of these knives appeared as if the were unused and unsharpened. Do you hold back some of your knives for collector's purpose only?

Hi, Wako. I believe that you mentioned that you use vegetable oil to protect your blades. Is there any concern over the vegetable oil becoming rancid in time or with the right conditions-- especially when it soaks into a leather sheath? Would you recommend using mineral oil instead? Thanks.

Wow! No one else shows the handle material of these knives as well as you do. I may go for the black and white ebony if it is still available. I am just not sure yet about bravo versus fox river. I like thick handles so I will probably go with Bravo. I have a friend who likes to fish for tuna (maguro) I wonder if he would like this kind of knife too. Are they a little bit salt water resistant?
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 6 жыл бұрын
I believe the real salt water resistant steels are only H1 on Spyderco and Bohler N680 on Benchmade. The both don't hold the keenest edge unfortunately though.

What are your thoughts on the Montana Guide. Not the new Montana Guide II, but the original.
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 8 жыл бұрын
I ever had the Montana Guide. It is precisely the Games Keeper without a guard. Their cutting edge is shorter than Bravo1 for its ricasso, and their belly is rounder than Bravo1. I think, only when you need the longest handle, the Montana Guide can be the way to go. But keep in mind its cutting edge is substantially short for its long handle. Thanks.

What are your thoughts of the Enzo line of knives? What are your thoughts on N690Co steel? I thank you for all your thoughts and videos. I have a learned so much from you. I hope our paths cross someday and we get to meet. Thank you.
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 10 жыл бұрын
I think I have ever experienced N690. If I am right, it is a standard grade stainless steel like VG10, less tougher than 154CM, softer than S30V. Enzo knives generally have a thin and no contoured handle. Currently I love contoured thick handle and don't see much benefit from Enzo. Thanks.

He also perfer 3V now if I am not mistaken. He found out the 3V issue was caused by the factory sharpened overheated edges. After the factory edge is removed, the 3V works better than A2. I don't know about cruwear though since Bark river heat treat it to ~60HRC which is not the best for cruwear.

@jtdbs They are affordable and seem to come with a leather sheath. Their belly curve is my taste. But their hand locking finger grooves are not my taste. Their handle will be useful for strong holding, but I hold the knife in various grips not strongly in the field dressing. So I have the Bucklite Max knife on order now. Its handle design is very different from the Kershaw. Thank you!

+Terry Christopher We learn virtue and vice as opposites at high school. I think I have the both in my mind and they are hidden to live a normal person. Virtuovice is virtu-o-vice which means I have virtue and vice simultaneously. The center letter -o- just sounds good to me. And I think vice means a person who carry a gun from the movie Miami vice. Is that correct? Thanks.
