I use my belt grinder to put a convex on knives all the It's very effective and I love the way a convex looks.

Can the grinds be done without damaging the heat treat? I have a Fin and Bone magnacut for the kitchen and a Bravo 1 Cru wear coming in a few days.
@richardhenry19699 ай бұрын
Absolutely the only time the heat treatment is damaged is if you let the edge get to hot. I use a 1x30 never had a issue. With these factory knives at most the edge might be overheated. It’s important to grind without gloves so you can feel the heat. The problem is it only takes a few seconds to heat a very fine edge. Most knives come from manufacturers have edge issues. I was told you don’t get to know how good a knife is until it’s been sharpened 5-7 times. That’s not stropped that’s sharpened I personally believe you know after 3 sharpenings. Convex has its cost. But it’s the best when it’s done right.

Great video! Just to be clear, at the 5:47 minute mark, he says "you want the belt as TIGHT as possible", not "as LIGHT as possible"? Tighter than you'd normally run the belt?? And what's the estimated belt speed being used here?
@michiganprotection Жыл бұрын
Tight. I run it at full speed friend. I do this all day everyday. It may be best to run at half speed if you are just learning. Hope it helps

@@michiganprotection I appreciate the response! Thanks, I'll tension the belt up a bit more now. I thought "slack" belt meant slack but not that slack I guess, haha (:

We’re on an old fashioned family road trip across the country. And you can only guess where I’m planning on stopping!
