1500grit or higher sandpaper if no strop.. with a leather strop and black or green polishing compound you may not actually need to sharpen for a very long time, just honing.. green compound on leather for touching up a good edge

Its not so much that stropping will dull your blade if you do it that way.. the issue is that you will slice your strop into pieces with the edge when it bites in :)

Yes I learned the difference between a sharpening motion and a stropping motion from Murray Carter's video. But I just recently learned the sharpening motion doesn't apply to convex edges, only stropping.

Excellent, well I guess I'll order the BRKT stropping kit and see how it goes. Thanks for letting me know the stones are a bad idea for convex.

I hate that! if you don't mind, what happened? Do you totally agree with your friend? I am just curious. Thanks for your time. Did you get rid of these in the video since then? I guess I meant to finish my statement & lost track on the last post. I was going to say, if your favorite was for sale, let me know. But it came out nothing like that. OOPS. Thanks buddy, Brad

stropping is on leather which is soft and conforms to the edge. by the time you are stropping you are dealing with only the last 1/100" of steel. if you push too hard on a strop you rol and blunt the edge

Convexing on a waterstone? You are keen :) I think I'll stick with Sandpaper for the convex.. Get one of my fixed blades next :D its cheap.. haha.. Good video~!

I thought that too when I first saw the design, and it's true, but Ed wanted a Kukri for Spyderco and that's what he designed. I've seen big folding kukris from Citadel that are totally different, same with the one from Cold Steel.

@turbo311 If you're looking for a great, small fixed blade, you should look into the Spyderco Street Beat

I agree do not deny the call of the Khukuri! It is utterly fantastic.

OK I got it. So if I'm just looking to touch up the edge, not sharpen a dull edge, what kind of sandpaper/strop should I be using?

How bad is the scratch? I wonder (this is purely a theory type thought/ wondering, lol) if you could strop it out with a leather strop and compound or something.

@chrisnordyke That IS a great little fixed blade and I've handled them and had a chance to buy one but never did.

@MBvacca Because of the way the owner of the company treated a friend of mine. Yes it's orange G10.

Ha yeah wanted the Bumblebee first actually but then these were available again. Bumble will be next, don't know what handle material though. Khukuri is calling to you? Well I wouldn't ignore that!

The Spyderco is called a Khukuri. Look on their website. Spyderco's are usually functional and not pretty.

what is the point of having such a tiny fixed blade? i'd just use a folder instead

I've seen it and I've seen others talk about sandpaper but I thought it was just an option not a requirement.

I'm familiar with it but my tastes have changed since I made these videos. I have no interest in Busse or other combat beastly knives. Right now I'm only getting customs and very few of them.

Well, you can use waterstones, but you need to learn how to roll the steel perfectly with your swiping motion, or you are taking a curve, and filing it into a flatgrind.. the sandpaper, and leather is soft, and contours to the curve of the steel maintaining the original angles and curve of the convex without deforming it

That kukri defeats the purpose of the kukri. It's mainly a chopping tool/weapon, which folders are never good for, plus they didn't include the sharpened straight part just before the belly, which will severly hinder the chopping ability. That's just a knife on an angle.

Some people prefer fixed blades all the time. Sometimes they're more useful. My Carter neck knives are a better example.

Do you actually use these expensive knives for their intended purpose or just rub your johnson on them all day long? That Canadian Special looks like you just pulled it out of the box. It's a freakin' bushcraft knife not a paper slicer.
