Looking forward to following your progress! My 70' 911T is in similar shape, but I have opted to re-design the front / rear suspension to accommodate some other changes I plan on doing with the car.

What an amazing project. Well done for taking the first massive step: buying a rotten 911!. I have spent more than 10 years bringing a rotten '67 SWB back from the dead (a sort of barn find, on Pelican) Everything is doable if you have even a little experience hammering your thumbs. Porsche only started doing partial rust protection in '74 iirc, so all these early cars are rusted in multiple places: kidneys, lower rear slam panel, inner sills, outer sills, front lower hinge panel, fuel tank carrier, lower front slam panel, lower windscreen corners front and rear and rear inner parcel shelf corners....to mention a few obvious ones. My suggestions are to check out a chap called Barry on the UK's classic Porsche forum DDK. His metal work is amazingly informative in terms of the process to replace composite rust repairs. Obviously there are some fantastic threads on Pelican. The other thing that I would recommend in place of a Celete is an Octisserie. There are plans on Pelican. All 911s/912s are worth saving (emotionally vs financially) but this is a S so definitely worth saving. My advice is to get the body on an Octisserie and strip it all to bare metal. Good luck!

Thanks! A friend of mine lent me his octisserie and the plan is to get the car on it once the torsion tube and front pan are replaced.

Back when I was your age, we did rust repair with an oxy-acetylene torch and coat hangers - which is kinda what the frametrail patches look like. Good luck, I'll be watching this .

68 is the last year for the "Short Wheelbase" 911's so this car is worth all the hard work that your putting into it. If the motor and transmission are original you have yourself a "Keeper". Good Luck

The engine is original and it has a replacement 68 901 transmission

Great project! You may enjoy pulling down the crushed pinch weld areas. Creating a 'level' bottom pan should help to position some of the replacement panels. A 68 911 S is a really really nice find.

About to embark on a similar project, waiting for my 66 912 junkyard find to turn up from LA to nz in a container. Have subbed and look forward to following along.

I'm very excited to see where this series goes. That's a beautiful car with a lot of potential. One bit of advice: you can get lapel microphones with the same charger end as your cellphone. One of those would make your audio the same volume and clarity which will enhance the viewing experience. You can find them from 5 to 50 dollars online, I think it would be a really good investment into making sure your videos match the quality of this build.

That's a great idea, I will pick one up.

When I describe to people about working on my Porsche 356A, I say its like working on an onion, you just keep pealing back layers LOL.
@Druepy17 күн бұрын
That's right. Keep peeling until you find the good onion.

Damn, I have similar project but I did stop due to the amount of rust and no idea how to fix different issues , hope I will now get some ideas, keep hood work.

I have had many 911's (65-89) I liked them all but if push comes to shove and I had to choose only one a SWB S is my favorite. I currently also have a 68 S and was wondering if you had the sand cast case?
@Druepy14 күн бұрын
This car is a late MY68 and has a magnesium case.

I can't tell from the pictures, but is the tube and outer connections sound?? If so, wouldn't it be less intrusive to make the new bracketry with CNC cut parts??
@desmomotodesmomoto203314 күн бұрын
You have to cut the sills open to look inside for rust, cut off both rear quarter panels as high as possible, remove all under coating every where, also cutting out kidney bowls to check and fix rust. Lots of places for rust to hide in these cars.
@Druepy14 күн бұрын
Completely agree and we are going to explore all nooks and crannies.

I see now, at the end of you video internal rust.
@Druepy15 күн бұрын
The internal rust, the picture with the screwdriver, and the fact that there is evidence that rust has been repaired in the past make me think the cleanest option is to replace the whole tube. Other people have solved torsion tube problems by machining sleeves to swap in a new tube center section. It's a good question.

SWB 911 S. whatever it takes there is room to spend. Resales are strong. But don’t get emotional and spend too much. People go nuts and spend way more than they will recoupe, they argue it’s not a financial decision. Makarky. They talk as if they are investing in their kids education,,, these are things. Just cars. Be wise. Look at bring a trailer sales and the piles of receipts folks spend. And the sold price , mind boggling. Have fun! Be careful removing too much sheet metal without a Celete bench. Also suggest not making any modifications. Get a kardex and follow exactly what the car had when delivered
@Druepy14 күн бұрын
It can definitely be a slippery slope to fix these cars. I plan on adding some personal touches without straying too from the factory. It will never be an original car so I won't worry too much about some of the details that can make these cars expensive to restore. I have the Kardex, which I can detail later in a video.
@michaelsummers660116 күн бұрын
Your doing just fine nice to have something where processes and thoughts behind them are explained rather than a restoration with music and with nothing explained which is just pointless garbage.

Thanks, I'll continue to keep it that way
