Bit strange but my name is Dave and I used to work in Romford. I used to work for the council and back in 2011 my last job was to work with all the relevant departments to clear out lots of the old council to make way for flats. Found lots of really interesting things like a pair of Opel mantas (one had two mummified cats on the back seat) lots of old escorts and a few capris. There was one garage that had been done out in wood panelling from a stately home and had a full library and a big leather seat. On the creepy side we Found more dirty mags than you could shake a dirty stick at and a homemade alcohol home brew set up and a pile of shitty pants

So many lessons to be learned watching this video. I understand it's not always feasible but please don't abandon your cars. Start them when you can, if you can't drive them then at least let them warm through, keep on top of the fluids and give them a wash if you have time. These things are so precious, if they weren't we wouldn't keep them. So please everyone, look after them 👍.

I still own, and am having my late dad's 1973 Austin 1300 GT fully restored by a retired gentleman in his 80s. It was the first car my late father bought, after emigrating here from Ireland in 1980. It was used to take him to work at British Leyland plants at Canley and Longbridge, until it was mothballed at 12 years old in 1985. It then sat in garages at various houses for 38 years, until in 2023, I finally decided to get it done. Should make its return to the road after a 40 year absence this summer!

Awesome! I grew up in the back of one of these, a lovely red colour. I have many, many memories of dodgy looking Russian fella's approaching my dad in random car parks across the country and offering very good money to buy it on the spot. Happened regularly. Apparently these were extremely common cars in the motherland and they began to struggle for parts, so it was very profitable for a Russian to pay above market value in the UK and take it home to strip down.

I’ve still got a Kona Cinder Cone I bought in the early 90’s too. Can’t beat a bit of hoarding. Hi Jonny, I mentioned this to you a while back. Still got my first car, a 1983 Mini in black. Started out as a 998cc City, bought for my 18th in 1995 and restored in 1997 so 30 years of ownership. It’s currently away following a 10 year layup. It was repainted in December (no rust to deal with as it was dry stored 😁) but the engine/gearbox build is the bit that’s taking a while. It’ll be on its 6th engine, but this one will probably outlive me (not cheap, but will be worth it!). Had my photo taken with you at the London Concourse after the live show - I was the guy that told you about the Tom ‘Wookie’ Ford stag do incident 😉

Love watching these garage find videos. Expecialy if the car has one owner. In our family we still have my "first" car - Zastava 101 (you dont have these in UK) - that was given to me from my late grandfather. Its now more than 40 years old and it waiting for my oldest daughter starting to learn how to drive on our farm - the car isnt registered anymore but we keep it in the working conditions. Its driven at least once a month so we keep it drivable condition. That car will never be sold and will be in our family for how long we could keep it working. Hello from Slovenija 🇸🇮

Hi Johnny I have a Works pressure washer for about ten years now. Although I also now have a mains unit as well. If you want "supercharge " the cordless washer, simply plug it direct to the tap. I bought mine when I didn't have access to a tap close to my garage, but now I do. And its a lot less of a faff than constantly filling a bucket. Better still if the tap has a strong flow.

Jonny with these old cars aswell be very very careful as the timing belt could be extremely brittle and it resulting as you know in major engine damage when it should be replaced along with tensioners idle wheels and waterpump etc before any starting up the engine.

My first car (Escort 1.3) I rolled through a hedge after 7 days! My second car (Alfa Sud Ti) I smashed into a wall and wrote it off after 3 months! Touch wood have been OK since. I had a 1.6 GTi and a 1.9 GTi 205 and have very fond memories of them and the fun I had in them. No speed cameras back then of course! Cheers

Romford of all places! Not being born and bred there, He didn't total it at Oldchurch roundabout on lose it on the brewery straight. :) I managed to escape Romford in 1992, just after peak hot-hatch 80's race track time.

I have great memories of driving around Romford with the roof down in my mates Triumph Stag, with a gentle burble from his engine swapped rover V8 when the Brewery was still a Brewery! Nice vid Johnny perhaps this one will be worth re-visiting next year. Let’s hope it’s only wiring and a bit of TLC in the engine bay that’s required, to bring this Essex boy gem back to life!

Always love seeing people that hang onto their first cars! I still have my Volvo C70 Coupe, bought in 2007 and still drive it as frequently as I can.

Got the 1963 Volvo 121 Amazon my grandad gave me, as a 15 year old in 1986. Restored it and later used it for a while, traded it away for a 1977 Ford LTD 2 wagon, many years later it appeared locally and a few years after that I got to buy it back! The things I did to it in the 80's is still nice and the car looks better than when I had it first! I use it quite a lot in the summer!

Some of the obvious missing bits - the bumper inserts, disintegrating gearknob etc are readily available again now as new parts from Peugeot Classic. I do hope this car gets fully restored and recommissioned and that you can revisit it when it does. Great episode Jonny, cheers.

205 GTI I was absolutely in love with the Peugeot Dimma. I did manage to buy a 306 GTI 2.0 16v in gold with 17 inch alloys. 💛 That car!!! Even found a old episode of top gear with my car in it. 14 yes first posted Wow
