I had an HD Premier that was rust-free. I bought it for $300, because it had damaged valve seats, and a mangled l/f guard. Drove it home about 29 miles. Was very awful, but was all there, even the centre console and radio delete plate. Think I paid $40 for a second-hand head, (outrageous!), and it fired up and ran sweet. Was saving up for a new l/f guard, but the Powerglide went mental, and would only shift smoothly, on full throttle, and only if it was done manually. I hate to say this, but I destroyed that car, It was worth nothing at the time, and when the trans let go, I got $700 from the wreckers. Sweet - $400 profit. Big bucks back in 1975. They, in turn, did a 2nd hand trans, and the worst paint-job you could imagine. Sold it for $1700, which, at the time, made it an expensive car. Parked outside of 28 Flatbush Road, a D-Series Ford truck ran straight up it's arse, and UTTERLY destroyed it. Major bummer, because the interior was mint, but in those days, it was worthless. Bought a MkII Austin 1800. Lasted a week. It was a nice week, and I still made money, though not as much. Bought my first car back at the gas station. 1600cc Hillman Super Minx Estate. Hillmans would not die. Except sideways into a tree on a metal road. Made a few bucks on that, too. Then a succession of landcrabs and Vauxhalls, then I turned Japanese. How dumb do I feel now? Very. I drive a P/T Cruiser, and it is an electronic nightmare. This is my punishment.

The only model I can think might be as rare as that X2 original air cleaner and manifold, would be an HR 186S with the factory 4 speed option.
@joepearce30332 жыл бұрын
I had know idea a hr had a 4 speed option
@miceinoz11812 жыл бұрын
The HR 186S with 4 speed is a lot more rare than an X2 HD. If I remember, there were only 112 made for competition against the first 289 Falcon GT. Now there, that really is showing my age.
@railtrolley2 жыл бұрын
@@miceinoz1181 That few 4 speeds? I first found out about it from a photo in a library book I saw many years ago (about 1970s). It was a bench seat, no centre console, and the shifter sticking up straight out of the transmission tunnel. Another rare piece on the 4 speed would have been the steering column surround - the bracket for the column shift would have been deleted from the casting. A first for Holden at the time. A different subject. The large gap in the dash, on both the HD and HR, between the speedo and oher gauges. There is a hole in the support bracket behind - suggesting another gauge was to be fitted, maybe as an option. I wonder what Holden intended to offer, and was it dropped at the last minute?
