Barn Wood Accent Wall - Installing Over Painted Drywall - Authentic Rustic Reclaimed Wood

I show installing thin reclaimed barn wood over painted drywall for an accent wall in a nursery. I nail the wood to the studs, no glue or other prep. The room already has wainscoting so the wood accent above it is a nice contrast. I will be adding metal pipe wood shelves to complete this rustic look. We will have to add some pink somewhere to make this a girls room...

Hi what kind of finish nailer is that and what is the best kind of nails to use so that they’re not viewable after nailing ? Thank you

How thick are they?2 1/2 inch nail? I'd be afraid to hit something like a wire especially since you're not only hitting studs

I see a lot of people using liquid nail caulk on the back of the board as well as the nails like you used on this project. Did you put every nail in the stud? I feel that the liquid nail will ruin the wall if removed. Was just wondering if nails only worked well for you and if they all had to be on the stud.

I specifically didnt want to use an adhesive since it would be such a pain to remove. Will likely tear the paper on the drywall. I just used nails and did not put all of them in studs, many just in the drywall. Wall is still doing well. Sure it has less attachment then adhesive but nobody is pulling on the accent wall. And if i ever remove i have easy to fill small nail holes.

Was curious as to why you didn’t break your joint over the studs?

It would require significant waste. Many just use adhesive to hold the pieces to the wall but that often will pull or rip the drywall paper when you eventually remove the decor. I would agree my method is not the preferred installation but I have yet to have an issue.

Correct, brads are normally 18ga but very similar. Either would work.
