I've tinkered with wled and ws2805 strips for my slat panels and need black diffusers for finishing with a seamless look. The Aura kit here seems seriously overpriced at £110 for 3 metres. Aliexpress sell the 13mm wide silicon channel for £10-£15 for 5 metres, but I'm worried they will dim/yellow the lights. Any suggestions.

Its a good job but some small things that would drive me mad are 1) Should've remove coving and skirting on that wall for the proper look. 2) Sockets are receseed which could make it difficult to plug appliance, thicker cords will catch on the panel and loosen them over time. Should've make a smaller socket cutout, used a 10mm spacer for the socket or longer screws to sit the faceplate directly on the slatts.

If you're pulling the back box forward so it may be visible, you will also need to ensure that back box is earthed to the socket. New build houses don't always have back boxes earthed. Looks nice when finished though. The problem with those lights though is if you want a feature wall around say a TV you wouldn't want all those cables and boxes sitting at the bottom of the wall.
@retro_restorations4 күн бұрын
If you know the wirng is required, might be better to cut the pannels short then run a thin black cable tidy (or white if you want to blend into the skirting) along the top or bottom which would be barely visible

I'd personally stick with the black plasterboard screws. I've seen pictures of when these panels have been removed after being stuck down instead of screwed down. Massive pain when it pulls half the plaster off with it. You then have to replaster the entire wall as opposed to filling in a few screw holes. Just something I thought i'd point out!

@patburke57402 ай бұрын
Yes, the walls will be destroyed, screwing is a better option. I panelled my hall halfway up and a feature wall in a bedroom with mdf I cut into 100mm lengths, fixed it to the wall using lost tite screws into fischer duopower wallplugs, the lost tite screws leave minimal filling and sanding. When filled, sanded, primed and painted the holes can't be seen.

Why not use a double socket spacer (in black) to bring the socket face forward say 15mm? would be a lot less hassle with the same result over moving the back box forward no? I take it the coving sits closer to the wall than the wood panels? Is there a trim option for going round an external wall corner or do you have to create a surgeon-level 45 degree miter join along the whole 2.4m edge :)

Great installation guide and I love the concept! But the price of those LED strips though £100 each or £230 for 4 + £30 for a remote control is an INSANE PRICE!. I would expect to do the whole wall for less than that to be honest! You can make 10 metres of these strips yourself for less than £50 and it's super easy as you just feed an LED strip through the silicone channels with a piece of string and save a small fortune. You can also use a more discreet PSU as that one seems ridiculously large for the intended use (given that even 200w gaming laptops use smaller ones). A tiny 25-50w 12v block that you wire yourself would do the job just fine at the size of 2 packs of playing cards, then you can use RGB/ARGB splitters to connect the lights together and use your phone for the remote (with dimming , different light modes, more colours and music reactive - PARTY MODE!). You can also connect to Alexa to have it voice activated. WAY more features for WAY less money!
