I have had a Soda Stream for a few years and it is great product. However the canisters are pricey. So I moded my Soda Stream to accept a standard 5lb CO2 tank. That costs $10 to refill. I also use the 5gl bag in the box post mix syrups from Pepsi. The key with using Pepsi post mix is the 5 to 1 ratio. I use 800 ml of water and 160 ml of syrup. Works perfectly and the cost is very cheap at about 20 cents per liter.

you don't have to shake it. Just tip it upside down and right side up a couple times. The bottles are $15 for 2 and you can get them and syrups at walmart, target, bed bath and beyond. The c02 cylinders can be exchanged ($15 or so) at many of the stores that sell the sodastream stuff. The cylinders carbonate about 50-60 bottles of soda, depending on how fizzy you like your drinks.

I have had one of these for a while. For the most part, it's pretty good. However, you forgot to mention that those were just the sample packs, not the actual bottles of flavoring. You buy them in stores in fairly large bottles. The CO2 runs out fairly fast if you have a large family, like I do. Also, this is fairly geared toward people on a diet or something, because they are very low calorie. This kinda sacrifices some of the flavor, so it sometimes tastes like cough syrup. Oh, and also, there are many more flavors than the samples they provided you. My favorite is Ginger Ale.

And also, I dare you to put in the flavoring before you carbonate it. Just a little tip, you're suppose to put it on it's side and roll it after you add the flavoring. This mixes it up a bit.

actually the sirup goes in last since putting it in before the co2 increases the pressure in the bottle somewhat exponentially and will probably blow up the mashine and the bottle, just a heads up, one of my friends found this out the hard way

Thanks for the review. Just one tip: it's been recommended that for a lot of the sodas you should use 5 buzzes. 3 buzzes is standard and the best for seltzer. But one of the best parts of the Sodastream is you can control how carbonated you want it. You get replacement cylinders for $15 at Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and a bunch of other stores. You can buy your own CO2 tank and buy the CO2 tank to save more money in the long run and refill the tank yourself. Use coupons.

1. The reason why you add the syrup after carbonation is so that way the contents of the bottle won't explode everywhere. 2. I got a SodaStream Source for Christmas and find most of the flavors to be good. In order of taste, it would be: Root Beer, Orange, Lemon Lime, Diet Pink Grapefruit, Diet Cola/Cola 3. I tried doing the high carbonation level one time which resulted in somewhat flat Cola. Later, I tried doing that three times when making the Diet Cola one which resulted in too much carbonation. I have since decided to do that two times which has resulted in the right amount of carbonation (so far). 4. I've been cleaning out the bottle after drinking all of the prepared soda or putting the remainer into another bottle, etc. by rinsing it out with filtered water. I then fill it with filtered water (up to the line) and keep it in the refrigerator. 5. I also keep the opened SodaMix(es) in the refrigerator since they recommend doing that in order to have the coldest soda possible.

I've been using Sodastream since 1990's (don't know when it stared in Australia) and occasionally with new models/designs have had fizzy volcano type explosions of stickiness showering down all over my kitchen and me, usually due to pouring the new flavour too fast and/or over fizzing the water. I swear I've used a tree of paper towels in cleaning up the mess.

Not sure how it is in your area but in Sweden you can exchange the cylinder in the electronic store where you bought it for a new one but you have to pay like $15~ for the refill. I guess there is something similar in the US.
