Looking good! I like your idea of planing 2x stock for leveling instead of shimming.

It is a lot more work but I think the end product is better. Thanks for watching!

We actually thought about that during the design process. We left it out of the plans but we have not completely ruled it out up to this point.

Are there any cost savings over stick frame construction at this post?
@ncbarndobuild7 ай бұрын
That is a valid and very good question. Unfortunately I have to say that I don’t know. I didn’t run any estimates on stick framing so I would be guessing if I tried to answer. I will be putting out a cost video for the shell here in the near future.

beams and joists are gong no where. How many hours do u have in floor system. Blocking is belt and suspender
@ncbarndobuild8 ай бұрын
Thanks. So far it seems like a rock solid floor system. I am gonna say a week and a half maybe? All kinds of work interruptions and trying to shoot video while I work so it is hard to keep track of time worked.

Why not I-Joist?

@@ncbarndobuild I've never priced the wood I Joist... kinda surprised they're that high.

@@NotTelling51 a 9.5 inch wide 16’ I-Joist is about double a 16’ 2x10. (Where I get building materials.) The girders and piers in our layout will be carrying the majority of the weight (which is why the joists run in different directions). Would I-joists or better yet floor trusses have been better? Probably, but not necessary in my opinion due to the design. That’s the beauty of building your own home. Spend the money on the things that matter most to you and use suitable alternatives in areas where you want to save money.
