My T/C Triumph loves the Barnes 250-grain TEZ with 115 grains of BlackHorn 209 and a M209 CCI primer. 3/4" groups all day at 100 yards.

@@suburbanhunt3653 Barnes centerfire is all I use for hunting calibers. I have not lost one deer of a dozen now and consider them my favorite bullet. I have had some concerns about fragmentation when I haven’t found a core but again, haven’t had to track one of those deer more than 100 yards. One bullet out of 308 was impossible to find and that does concern me. That deer went 25 yards.

I am surprised to see the variance in accuracy with grain matched powder loadings between brands with the same brand&weight projectiles. Also surprised that you are testing the powder and not 20 different projectiles, surprised by the results. And lastly; really grateful DJ for you doing all this testing. I just got my first traditional smoke cannon yesterday and this is great information to know.

Thanks for watching. I had to find a way to have measurable results. So some test are different powders and some are different projectiles. Thanks again for watching

What also needs to be mentioned at least from my experience was the temp outside will also effect the bullet pattern with the 777 but even though the pyrodex is defiantly dirtier you can shoot it in the warmer weather and still get a really good pattern
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
I have heard others say similar things regarding ambient temperatures. I may have to set up a few test this winter and duplicate them in the each of the seasons. It would be an interesting video for next season.

I use pyrodex for almost 30 yrs. I use a Barnes 250 gr hollow point. I've been a fan of a 150 gr load but do shoot 100 gr at times.. my groups are excellent out of an older knight gun and also my current traditions vortex. I'm very comfortable at the 150 range. Flyers don't exist . Cleaning can be longer with this pellet but if that's the issue big deal. I'm about consistency and trust. I'm not stuck on a product and I continue to experiment but I always come back . Good shooting to all.

100% agree you have to trust what you load. At the end of the day cleaning any of the powder is worth it given it’s reliable. Thanks for watching

@swamprat9018 Жыл бұрын
LOL I was shocked at that .75 group also. seems like it the 250tez likes to move fast but don't like to the punch at the start. I bet a 120gr charge of trip7 2f would work, and real black would be terrible. I would have shot one more round that 5" group something does not seem right. I like your test because I know you can shoot, half these guys on the ytube can't hit the same side of the barn twice from the inside.
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
Lol I appreciate that!! I thought about the extra shot but I had just enough projectiles to complete the test. Thanks for watching
@ditchdigger93 Жыл бұрын
You seem to have about a 2 1/2-inch gun. You've shot two groups I'd repeat several times and pick one and run with it. Me, I'd prefer the Tripple 7 load with the powerbelt, but I have to wonder if that Barnes bullet isn't a more effective hunting bullet? Not a big fan of Pyrodex because it is so dirty to shoot. But hunting you're more than likely going to only shoot one time anyway and to me accuracy is more important than anything else. With that said any of those 2 1/2-inch loads are plenty good enough to take deer every time.
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I plan to you a couple different combos this year to see how the projectiles preform. Whichever powder produces the most accuracy. I will definitely be using on of the sub MOA combos when trying to reach out to 200+ yards

I like the videos ..the way your holding your hands it's obvious your a mason and you want us to know that..what were the primers ? If I was shooting I would have cleaned between shots with 3 to 4 patches with water only..I would not come up with any excuses..hard headed don't count..lazy doesn't fly ..in over 30 years I clean between shots..I got 3 209 encores and 2 15" encore 50 caliber pistols...your best group was standard pyrodex pellets..those are rated very high for being the best for rust and corrosion..the other pryrodex pellets and powder is excellent for non corrosion and water clean-up..I know it's 10x harder using 4 patches with water but it has to be done
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
Well.. not a Mason but thanks….I think. I’ve never heard to use water in lieu of solvent. But as you mentioned you have several years of experience in comparison so I will be researching that. I’m always happy to learn. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best of luck this season. Edited: I only have experience with CVA rifles, wolf and optima v2. Is the water method better or flint lock and percussion caps or just rifle that do not have a removable plug?
